Squatting isn't doing my back any good.

Yaman I must point out that my use of ‘dead’s’ to refer to deadlifts was a mistake on my phone’s part.

I realise that grammar is a very serious matter. I did of course mean ‘deads’.

Currently 53 and still improving but I didnt start training until I was in my 40's, so whether that has any bearing on it. The only down side, so far, is injuries take longer to heal

Rob, I tore my right meniscus and acl aged 19 or 20.
Not sure when I tore my left meniscus and acl, but the MRI I had aged 25 showed it had scarred over. 2 slipped discs. Slap tear in left shoulder.

I was about 86kg when I was squatting 200 naked knees for fun, benching 135, and pulling 220kg without any "assistance". I could even do it after 7 years clean when in Cyprus, and another 3 years have passed since then.

Sorry for the silly question, but did you use drugs when at your strongest?

It could be a mixture of wear, tear and low testosterone

If you train sensibly, listen to your body, let injuries have enough time to heal and don't abuse PED's there is no reason to not keep getting stronger as you get older.

My deadlift PB came at the age of 53.
My bench PB at the age of 55.
My squat PB at the age of 60 (an M3 European record at the time).
I have only ever lifted raw / unequipped.

Too many people want to be breaking records six months after they start lifting and overdo their training.

I did use stuff in 2010. I think I had 4 cycles between 2008 and 2010, but those numbers aren't what I quoted (I did get 240 squat in wraps, 160 bench, 245kg deadlift) but I hit 200/135/220 7 years after that cycle. Now it's 10 years after and I'm weak in squats and deads.

Sometimes I got hurt being a big baby and sometimes I got hurt not letting go and holding onto something I should of dropped or bailed on. I always wondered when I was in college wrestling if some of my teammates got hurt on purpose just so others could feel sorry for them like their mommy and daddy and grandmama. Now I try not to thing poor me when I’m running a heavy yoke!

If you are on the sauce or even TRT then you can probably continue to get stronger / maintain a very decent level of strength

not on the sauce ..... if you were a top lifter in your younger days, i think strength is doing down but if you are a casual semi serious lifter , age might bring more experience and strength

one the sauce when younger and now not on the sauce ??? much weakness Roll-Eyes

I’m on sauce now. Never was before. Was trying to keep the sugar low. But I just can’t resist Heinz sweet chill sauce on my scrambled eggs. Mmmm mmm.

My competing days are over. I now live on an Island with 300,000 others (in this half anyway). What would me being on Heinz achieve now? Someone being impressed with me hitting a 200kg squat again, as opposed to a 170kg squat? These penii don't even squat. They try to impress me with their leg press, so I ask them if they'd like to squat with me. They decline and piss off.

like many other drugs ....it brings a great feeling of well being ...more zipppp ... training is more fun and recovery is quicker

the downside is probably a host of complications as you get older and then early death.

needless to say , i am giving it a big swerve !

Despite wanting to get mahoosive, I managed to talk myself out of drug use repeatedly. Now I can be happy knowing that when I do wither away and die, I did all myself with no help from drugs! 😂

I'm 35 and having a mock meet on Saturday... I will absolutely, categorically hit new maxes. Never taken peds and don't intend on for the foreseeable future.

When did you last take 2 weeks off without lifting at all? You'd be surprised how many times this simple solution resolves stagnation in those that have trained for a very long time.

If you have had a complete rest in the last year or two, I'd ask the question... when you go to train do you go because of habit/hobby/routine, or because you are hell bent on getting stronger than you was a week ago?

The fire in your belly will go before age related decline. In fact, I dare say if you are sub 45, the 'decline' with regards to age probably isn't a thing for a strength athlete... it's more a case of a lowered maximum ceiling... but 99% of us won't get to the ceiling anyway.
