Last night I watched an episode of The Inbetweeners, the one were they go to Jay's campsite and Neil cops off with the red-headed punky girl who Will foolishly refused to f**k (preferring to skid instead), strange man.

As they leave, Jay's father gives them the very sage advice of not raping anyone on the way home, the car is visible from the rear and the number plate on the back of the car is - M483 LTH, "that's a bit rum" I thought

Sure enough, as Neil explained away the wet seats by excessive fingering and masturbation during the night the car is shown from the front pulling up in a lay-by. The front number plate is M335 ALP which is the one I am familiar with and I would not have considered rum.

I have long been perplexed by one's ability or inability to notice things.

I recall an incident in the gym, were a lad named Jake loaded two weights onto a bar, one writing side in and the other writing side out. Now I don't mind which way round they go but I do much prefer that they are both the same. I warned him that loading in this way could cause cancer and soften any future erections he may get, and he kindly corrected things (more to appease me rather than any great belief in these ludicrous warnings).

He did however ask the question "How did you even notice that?" forcing me to give the rather unsatisfactory answer of "How did you not?"

Answers on a postcard please

Friday, 16th October, start 15:55

My ribs have ached today, mainly at the back on the right hand side. Every time I stood up or sat down again, they ache, no idea why.

Squat, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
belt on
100 x 5
120 x 5
140 x 5
152 x 5
140 x 5
130 x 5
While the ribs gave me some gyp as I got under the bar and again as I got out from it, they never bothered me during the actual reps. The 152 was a lovely set, everything about it was good, especially the pick up, probably the year's best set.

As I result I upped the two drop downs to 140 and 130 and while there was nothing wrong with the 140 there was a lot to like about the 130 it was, as I now refer to it, my good King Wenceslas set. I last did a set like with this at 110 (or maybe 100, not too sure) so I was very happy to do it with 130. Happy days but my ribs still ache.

Adlington is known for its bizarre and unusual conversations and tonight it excelled itself. A very enjoyable evening

Ribs still giving problems but squatting seems to have improved it (as it does so many things), not by much though.

Ribs still playing up. Hope it feels better tomorrow and I have an inkling that benching will not be as kind to them as squatting was.

When I was out and about yesterday dinner, I ran across an old friend who I used to drink with back in the day, he is a few years older than me, though not more that five I would guess. He looked in a dreadful state and was using a mobility scooter to get around, he has, he told me, only the one lung left and that doesn't work too well.

He was a lifelong smoker and like all smokers believed that this sort of s**t only happened to other people and would not happen to him. Though why exactly he believed that, he admits, is rather difficult to say.

He was as Shakespeare said of Yorick "a fellow of infinite jest" He isn't laughing now.

So very sad.

Be careful Peeps, s**t is most definitely best avoided, assuming of course we are given a choice.

Monday, 19th October, start 16:00

Not the best of days today, spent most of the morning on a teams call which involved sitting still on a hard backed chair for too long and it did the rib no good whatsoever. On the plus side, the bench was kinder to the ribs than I thought. It would seem movement is the key.

Bench, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 3
105 x 3
105 x 3
105 x 3
All rather hard tonight, especially the last set which only just made it. The beard will have to be stroked.

Tonight something rather strange happened, something that I believe to be a first in all my years at Adders. There was no Handsome Jeff, no Mack, no Sergeant Sit Down and no bleached ju-jitsu guy.

There was Aaron, and I was there and we were the only men in the place, but there were three females, so I believe this is the first time in my memory that the girls out-numbered the boys for the duration of the entire evening.

Rib improving very slowly, it dislikes sitting on uncomfortable chairs and leaning forward, it likes leaning back, being comfortable and lying down. It started after this workout last time so it is probably something in that workout that caused it. Some amendment will be made tonight as I strongly suspect either SLDLs or good mornings to be the more likely culprits.

Barbell bent row
20 x 10
40 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10

Tbar row
30 x 10
30 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10

Shrugs
60 x 10
80 x 10
100 x 10
120 x 10
120 x 10
120 x 10

A bit more of these tonight as I was dropping two exercises, I have two theories about this which I don't have to decide on until next time, by then, I should have more information to factor in.

About ten days ago I was speaking to a human of my acquaintance and mentioned something in passing and she considered it very rum. Today I made a phone call and was speaking to a different human and informed them about this rum thing, she considered it very rum too. Then she had an idea, told me of it and I considered that very rum indeed. She said she would look into the matter and call me back between five and six. At five thirtyish she called and informed me that her original idea had proved to be correct, and that the first rum thing was only rum because of the extreme rumness of the second thing. Bottom line - I am extremely happy. Moral - out of rumness can come great joy. Moral the second, talk to people, out of inconsequential comments can come wondrous things. I'll let you know if there are developments

Ribs are improving but very slowly. At least we are going in the right direction. Definitely
improving over the course of a working day which is a blessing. Working again tomorrow so roll on the weekend.

Not decided on the bench workout for tomorrow, might try Monday's again but then again I might not.

Cheers Wayne, it isn't my first either, the really annoying thing is that I never know what causes it. I suspect of course, but I never actually know

I spent a few minutes with the foam roller before I started and that seems to have been beneficial. We have a new system at work and so we are all being trained virtually which involves daily, three-hour meetings which means sitting on an uncomfortable chair for the duration and actually paying attention. More to come next week as well. I suspect the foam roller will get some more use

I'm amazed you haven't bought yourself a comfortable chair. I know you like a bit of suffering on principle, but my patience would have run out after six days (probably hours, actually), not six months.

I did 5 months on an uncomfortable chair before finally getting round to getting a decent replacement, it has made a huge difference!

The company has offered us the option of taking our workchairs home with us. But the simple fact of the matter is there is no room.

Plus once the rib is sorted it really isn't too bad

Another factor is that it is easier to stay awake with an uncomfortable chair.

Happy Happy Happy
