You may also remember the attempt on Trump for saying in a private locker room conversion that when you're richer than God, women let you just grab them by the pussy. Again, now that the Anti Trump is effectively a 'Me Too' protagonist, I find it no coincidence that is all gone a bit quiet on that front... | ||

Having gone and done the reading, I am significantly less puzzled, but a little bit more weary and sad. Seven of the women have said that they were absolutely not assaulted, but they were uncomfortable with his judgement and professionalism (or lack of). Icky, and hopefully he'll learn. This sort of thing seems weirdly commonplace amongst politicians - multiple MPs here have had similar and worse allegations made against them, and of course Trump is famous for this and more - and it's highly unpleasant, but clearly not debarring. The eighth is an altogether different thing, not least because it's so old - over a decade before the eight years Biden already served in the White House - and yet basically new. I gather that it has been investigated by the NYT and found wanting, that Biden has asked for relevant records to be released to prove the falsehood of the details of the allegation, that the victim has repeatedly and recently endorsed Biden as a champion on women's issues, has changed her story about this multiple times, has a track record of lying about various things, mostly on her CV (including how long and in what capacity she worked for Biden), and is currently under investigation for lying about her credentials while serving as an expert witness, and that she is releasing a memoir this month. I am strongly in favour of believing women a priori, and I believe seven of the right women in this situation; I think it's fair to say that there are justifiable doubts about this eighth. I wish the candidate was somebody I could support wholeheartedly and entirely, at least on a personal level (I am unlikely ever to be able to support the Democrats on policy, they're well to the right of the Cameron Tories). But would I hold my nose and vote for him, against the Republicans in general and Trump in particular? f**k yes. | ||
