Anyone do/done these?

I've been doing them against the wall in my garage using DBs as handles. An issue with them is that they can cause dots around my eyes (burst blood vessels), but I've found if I stick to singles (with added weight) this doesn't happen. The friction of trainers rubbing against the wall adds some resistance too.

Approximately how many Argos catalogues worth of additional weight are you bearing?

Wall chafe is always an issue with these. I'd personally recommend a carrier 'bag for life' on each shoe as this will help your feet glide against the wall. It's important to note this is the tesco 20p bag for life plastic type variant which tends to provide the least friction. Other varieties may worsen the condition, particularly those of a hessian construction.

Loal! You've given me an idea. I could put the DBs on Argos catalogues for extra ROM! I'm using a boring non-Argos way of adding weight - plates tied to a belt with a shoelace. Only 5kg last time. Probably 5.5kg next time.

I like a handstand press up from time to time, I think a deficit is a good way to go as if you just go until your head touches the floor then it's quite a small room

True, but for people too weak to do deficit HSPUs (ie chumps like me who can't strict press their bodyweight), regular ones are an interesting way to overload the lockout.

Can you do it the other way for the beginner - i.e. stack up cushions and increase the ROM over time?

Just done 3 singles with +6kg from a 2 catalogue deficit. That was my entire workout, although I may do some finger extensor work during the ad breaks of Finding Bigfoot Happy

These have become a big part of my training these days, I mainly do calisthenics now and hardly do any lifting. My best is 28, I do have quite short arms though to be fair. I'm doing them freestanding too and have done 16 as my best. Good ways to build strength with them are pike press ups and raising your feet more as they get easier, doing just the negative/lowering part of the handstand press up (just kick up and lower yourself as slowly as you can), doing military press is obviously still a great way to build strength for it too of course, but if you don't have access to weights then just do bodyweight stuff.

Good stuff! Any issues with pressure in the head/eyes?

Not really, a couple of people I've trained with have said about it, but I've been lucky I guess. Just like with everything build up slowly.

I think you should have used this as a shameless plug for your insta account! The stuff you do is incredibly impressive.

Thanks, but I'm pretty average in the grand scheme of things with calisthenics. Like most on here would I do pretty well with the ones that require decent strength. Flexibility holds me back quite a bit and I just don't put enough time into it.
