The Gentlemen was a highly enjoyable flick. Might I also recommend Parasite if you havent seen it? It is Korean and subtitled but still very entertaining.

Thank you for that, I shall keep my eyes peeled

Just had a walk in the sunshine around the one way system. As I passed the chip shop, it was open and had only two in the queue. I am a weak man and could not resist.

I also purchased two cold pies as I passed that shop too, so that is tea sorted.

By the lord Harry it's warm as well. Once round the one way system was enough to get a considerable sweat on

Having time on my hands, and more cash than usual, plus a very mild spirit of adventure, I purchased two fillet steaks from Tesco. Today at 11.20 I warmed a non-stick pan, lobbed the steaks in it, whisked five eggs into a jug and cut five, small, sweet tomatoes in half. These then joined the steaks in the aforementioned pan. About ten minutes or so later, the steaks were rested on a plate and the eggs were prepared in the microwave, the tomatoes then joined the steak and eggs and by the Lord Harry it was lovely. Plus the bonus that the extractor fan did its job and the smoke alarm made no sound. The washing up was done as the kettle boiled and tea was drunk by way of celebration as much as anything.

Many will not realize what an achievement this is for me but there are those who will. They know who they are and I thank them for their confidence and encouragement.

Well done! One of the things about cooking is that, like so many things, "what I've done a few times before" is largely indistinguishable from "what is easy".

Sad news today.

A chap I went to school with has died, and I don't mean senior school, I mean infant, so we were what, five years old ?

He was a lovely chap, I met him again when he became our local postmaster about a couple of decades back and a more helpful fellow there never was.

Details are unclear but a few Saturday's back he had a funny turn and was taken to hospital, on the Monday he was diagnosed with something serious, I'm not sure what, and the following Saturday he died. Under present conditions facts are no so easy to come by.

His funeral is this Friday, there will be a procession and attendees will line the route. He wasn't a drinker or a smoker and he was a fit chap who liked to go hiking. Just shows, you never know the minute.

How you doing Pete?

I'm an Audible subscriber now, and quite a heavy user. Listen in when I drive, cycle, run and walk. Anyway, there's a Sherlock Holmes collection narrated by Stephen Fry. Never been into Sherlock Holmes, but don't know why. Or Stephen Fry. However it is one of the highest rated audio books on there, and I've found these ratings to be quite accurate. I have enough Jack Reacher to hold off for a short while, but I can see me succumbing at some point this year. I imagine it will be like a posh wank, in that I consider it a bad idea up front, but quite enjoy the reality of it.

I am very well thank you. Hope you are too.

There are sixty Sherlock Holmes stories, four novels and fifty six shorts. The shorts are published in five volumes: The Adventures and the Memoirs (before his "death") and the Casebook, the Return, and his Last Bow (after his "death")
The novels are A Study in Scarlet (which is the introduction), then The Sign of Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Valley of Fear.

By coincidence I purchased the CDs of the five volumes of short stories just prior to lockdown and often listen to them as I work.
In my opinion, just as Jeremy Brett was the perfect Holmes on screen, Fry is the ideal person to read the stories. It is difficult to imagine anyone doing it better.

Enjoy, Mr. L, just lie back and enjoy

Attended my first lockdown funeral today.

The chap I mention some small number of posts ago was driven through his hometown at 9:30 this morning. We stood by the roadside and applauded as there really isn't much else you can do.

That was that as they say. Shortest funeral story ever.

Sorry about the loss of your school pal. These are odd times indeed. Up here, there have been no new cases reported for well over a month and a recent funeral was heavily attended in spite of guidelines. Old people particularly seem convinced that 'it's not on the island'. I hope for their sake that they're right.

I hope they're right as well. What I have noticed is that when instructed to socially distance people do it, but when not given that instruction they don't seem to bother.

It's a funny old world.
