Is there such a thing?

Even at my strongest gym lifts (which I've updated back in to my profile), I never really considered myself strong. But often felt a little better about myself because for 99% of everything, I trained as raw as I could. That is to say, I sometimes used a belt for squatting, but that was mostly to work around injury, as opposed to any other time.

I didn't use sleeves or wraps. Yeah, my number clearly reflects that.
I used straps a handful of times in my life but felt quite alien doing so.
I never got on with a belt.

Though I have to admit to using chalk at one point because the bars were a bit worn in the gnurling I used to use.

Are there any utterly raw lifting folk out there?
My favourite deadlifter was Konstantinovs but I never found many other lifters like him.

not me , always use a belt on anything heavy as I feel it protects my dodgy grandad back

I occasionally lift naked, but it is mostly due to heat rather than any specific training belief.

I switched to raw and my back has never been better. I would still use a belt in comp for squats as it adds 20kg but for deadlifts I get no benefit any more. Also given up with straps.

I have to use chalk though, my hands get so sweaty.

Maybe if I didn’t use chalk my grip would improve though...

This was always my take.
I ended up with a decent grip.
Embarrassingly, my grip outlasted my actual back strength though.
I'm sure it should be the other way around.

I'm sure that we should all lift in the nod, just to really be sure that a deadlift is a real deadlift.

im the opposite. for some reason gripping the bar, be it mixed (the worst by far), hook or overhand my back is more likely to pop out. straps are the safest variation for me.

You can not be RAW if you train.

i never need wrist straps or any form of wrist support nowadays (likley due to my poverty bench and overhead in old age)

as i am training in my garage with medium-high reps i feel zero need for any support not even knickers are required.

i rearely used a belt in the gym...only for sets below 3 reps on dead and top 2-3 sets on squats.

chalk, only used straps if had a hand issue which was rare. but then again the most i lifted was farmers 150 each hand wayyyy back so no great downward force anyhow...

i think this approach over the past 35 years has given me quiet thick tendons and strong wrists/ancles etc but who knows...

I occasionally use straps, but don't class any of my actual personal bests unless they are raw. I don't see the point in alot of the extra equipment people use nowadays. Most people just use it to lift more, which I think kind of defeats the object of strongman

Chalk and lift. Or chalkless if your really picky, but the chalk just helps suppress the ol sweaty palms.

-ban tacky
-ban straps
-ban suits
-ban belt cleans
-ban sleeves
-ban wraps
Happy

Was told that your front teeth have a pressure breaking point several pounds below that of your neck so if you have a front impact your teeth break before your neck does. Someone stated your grip would give out neurologically before your back does to prevent the same issue.

Interesting theory at least

If that is true, which, given the amazing complexity of the human body, just adds to blowing my mind.
