Bush trimming always makes a positive difference.

Rather chilly this morning, I arrived at Tescos at six o' clock and it was one degree, I arrived home at quarter to seven and it was half a degree more.

On the way hope from Tesco early Thursday I drove past a local bakery, they were displaying signage that indicated they were open for business once more. As a believer in supporting local businesses and an even greater believer in pies, I ambled over there about eight o'clock this morning. So two steak pies for breakfast and a delicious looking scone for later.

The unusual thing was that there was a notice in the door stating "cash only". They have applied for a machine but it has yet to arrive. I informed them that this was possibly the second time in seven weeks that I had used cash.

"Everyone says that" was the reply. A sign of the times no doubt and I do wonder to what extent cash will return when this is over. But the pies were no less delicious for all that, and steak pies do make an excellent breakfast.

Saw this on the TV some days back, maybe an episode of QI. Someone has run a mile in less than three and a half minutes, some twenty seconds faster that the official athletics time.

And I was oblivious to it, damn it !!

For reasons I don't understand I was convinced that today was the 19th and the more I checked that it was the 18th the more convinced I became that it was the 19th.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring ?

I wish I could believe that. It will be the 19th of that there is no doubt, but I may not think so tomorrow. Today has rather un-nerved me

So the 19th today

My bedroom clock also has the date on it so every morning I check the date and then just remember it, which isn't usually difficult as the kitchen clock and the clock in the front room, being digital, also have the date on. as does my watch, my phone and the computer screen, so at every turn there are gentle reminders of what the date is.

The real mystery of yesterday is that despite everything telling me it was the 18th I kept thinking it was the 19th. Hopefully normal service will resume today. So far, so good.

My guess is that on the 17th, which as you well know was a Sunday, Fat Pete did what he does best and slobbed around the house for the large majority of the day. Therefore, a much lower level of date-checking than usual occurred, leading to yesterday’s confusion.

I could be wrong though.

Today as worked out very well, I thought it was the 19th at the start, I still think it is the 19th and I have thought it was the 19th at all points inbetween.

Not the most interesting day at work, I changed an o ring from one part number to another in very many places. I have more to do tomorrow, still it can't be all excitement

Had a walk in the sunshine when I finished work today and found myself outside Greenhalgh's pie shop once more, I have commented in the past on their sausage rolls, steak and kidney and pasties, today it was the turn of meat and potato, or to give it its politically correct name - potato and meat.

These are pies that I can usually take or leave, but by the Lord Harry this one was delicious, it was like a party in my mouth. Chuffin' lovely

I was about to recommend their cheese pasties, which are strange but incredible delicious, but then realised it's you. The Lancashire pasties are good too.

I would counsel you to buy one of their "crumpet loaves" and some really good salted butter - Tesco sell beurre d'Isigny, for example. Really good toast.
