Managed to win my class at the British Bench yesterday. 142.5 was the best I could have expected and that was what I got. Also a new Scottish M3 record and a 10 kg improvement on my last competition. So still a way to go but pleased to be moving in the right direction.

Journal update. Haven't trained since returning from France. I came back with a French cold, and just as that went I got a Scottish cold. I haven't got the energy to train right now, and with no pending competitions there's no sense of panic, just a gnawing feeling that I need to get back sooner rather than later. I haven't trained since 19th Feb, and haven't lifted since the 23rd. Hopefully I can do a light session tomorrow, Thursday being a 'bench day'. At least I have my own gym, and won't face the wider challenges that many of you will over the coming weeks and months. Stay safe and well, everybody.

I finally managed to get back into the gym today. It was both a physical battle after the two consecutive colds left me feeling really low, and a mental one after one bit of awful news after another, and after the month off left me scared to find out how much strength and fitness I'd lost.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
110 for 1 paused -easy
120 for 1 paused - easy, surprisingly
130 for 1 paused - bit of a fight, that's quite enough
100 for 5 x 3 sets

Dumbbell Arm Curls
Keeping it light
12.5s for 15
12.5s for 15
12.5s for 20

Finish.

Delighted with what I can still do, and that one element of normality can now return to my life. My arms looked tiny after I showered last night, thankfully the strength loss hasn't matched the size loss.

My sympathies to all of you unable to train at the moment, when it's been an ever present and essential part of your lives for many, many years. I hope you can find ways to keep things ticking over until a degree of normality returns. If it's any consolation, I had six months off a couple of years ago and retained over 70% of my strength, so don't despair and embrace the different opportunities that present themselves. The rest might even heal old scars.

Second session of the week. Very similar workout to Monday. No !rm test, and a rep added to the sets with 100.

Bench
Bar for 10
40 for 8
60 for 6
80 for 4
100 for 2
110 for 1 paused -easy
120 for 1 paused - easy
100 for 6 x 3 sets

Dumbbell Arm Curls
12.5s for 20 x 3 sets

Finish.

Happy with that. I've decided that from now on all my singles will be paused. Pointless doing something in the gym you can't reproduce on the platform. And the practice might even make me better when it counts.

Then did a song while I was there and uploaded it! How brave/stupid...

Haha, cheers mate, hopefully someone better than me will record it. Happy Careful though, the first two lines are a bit of an earworm. Happy

It's been about six weeks since I trained my back. Hard to believe, but true. Plus not exactly champing at the bit to get to the garage, nowhere near 100%, so let's take this nice and easy.

Seated Row - 70 for 10 x 5 sets
Lat Pulldown - 50 for 10 x 3 sets
Facepulls - 30 for 10 x 3 sets
Shoulder Horn - 7.5s for 10 x 3 sets
T Pulls - Red band for 20 x 3 sets
Finish

What would once have been a gentle warm up was remarkably hard work. Amazing how quickly you lose it! But it's a start, and that's what every journey needs.

I had thoughts of deadlifts, but my right knee was playing up all day. Maybe tomorrow...?

Then recorded another song while I was in a bark-free zone.

You might get a "better" guitarist or a "better" singer but can you get better than a self penned song sung form the heart?

I love the rawness of it even if I can only understand half of the Scottishness
Cool
