Monday, 10th February, start 16:00

Bench, very raw, workboots on
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
102 x 5
105 x 5
107 x 4
bo***cks ! A pox and a curse on the thing.

Last week I noticed that one of my squat boots had a lace that was close to snapping, so Friday evening I purchased a new pair of laces and yesterday I put them in. After that I swear I put my pumps on one side (from inside my bag) and the newly laced squat boots into the bag. Well I didn't. The Pumps must have been removed as they were no longer there, but neither were the squat boots, they were later found back in my kitchen gentle chortling and calling me a fool. This is not to blame for the horrendous failure above, that is simply because I am s**t at bench.

Nor are my squat boots the only thing to mock me and call me a fool, two of the younger and talented weightlifters also did so. There was a heated discussion on the frequency with which certain exercises should be performed. My advice was that they should seek the assistance and advice of knowledgeable people. Their response was they I was a fool and should be ignored and mocked in equal measure. I can't say I blame them, I just hope that they realize sooner rather than later that even if I am not right I am nowhere near as wrong as they think I am.

So an eventful day, and the 107 x 4 was most certainly the worst bit. As I don't see my bench improving in this lifetime but I can at least keep my lip zipped. Well, probably. :-)

I still think you should do your heavy sets before your lighter sets...

Try something like going up to a top single, then keep taking 5 Kg off and adding a rep each time - eg 120 x 1. 115 x 2, 110 x 3, etc... and keep going until you hit a set of 8. Might work, might not, but the shock of something different might be beneficial in itself. Happy

120
130
120*3
110*5

Wednesday 12th February, start 16:00

Just me and Ju-jitsu guy to begin with. So the lights stayed off

Deadlift, slippers and sleeves
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3

I omitted the 110, 130 and 150 sets deliberately to see if it made the top set easier and surprise, surprise it didn't. In fact I noticed no difference whatsoever.

No weightlifters to be seen tonight for various reasons, third man in was Ian Mac, who switched on the lights, but it was getting quite dark by then. And last of all came Stevie F, and that as they say was that.

I do miss the weightlifters but it sure as hell is a whole lot quieter when they aren't there.

They are apparently not bot going to publish a rota, and I’m reluctant to drive down not having seen one, but yeah, probably. Only refereeing, though, I’m retired.

I swore a solemn oath I wouldn't compete again at SHW. I'm comfortably under 120 now, but I think I want 105, or certainly under 110. Competition would just distract me.

Plus I'm weak as piss.

Friday, 14th February, start 16:30

A rum do today, got within a mile of the club and was greeted by several smashed up cars and a smashed up van littering the road so had to detour along with a thousand others, hence the late start.

Tbar row, in pounds again this week
50 x 10
50 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
100 x 10
100 x 10
125 x 10
125 x 10
150 x 10
150 x 10
175 x 10
175 x 10
150 x 10
150 x 10

I have never had the smoothest hands in the world, for as long as I can remember I have had segs and calluses, but they seem pretty grim at the moment. My visitor last night commented on them, she did not dislike the feel of them but they did feel unusual she said. Anywoo, with the cold weather and all they were bothering me tonight, so E45 has been purchased and we shall see what happens.

We have been promised another storm tomorrow but I can't see it being much of a problem, a feel a chippy visit coming on but we shall see what the weather is like, I dislike altering plans because of the weather but there is no point being silly about it.

Trips for food are the only outings I have planned for this weekend, food and sleep and a very fine boiler with newly flushed radiators. Happy days.

Quite a full house for a Sunday, six lifting and me just generally getting in the way. Three for nosebag after and then a nap, now I have a new bench plan to devise
