A plumber came today and installed a new and rather splendid looking boiler. The old one had not broken, but the signs were there. Tomorrow that same plumber will force stuff through the radiators and cheer them up, this cheerfulness will manifest itself in extra heat I am told, but we can't turn the new boiler on until this is done as all the old sludge would head for the new boiler.
So tonight I am without heat. I have an electric shower, so hurrah for that, and for once, my considerable, three hundred bulk is working to my advantage.

Almost all Americans use ize. Most English (me included) usually use ise.

But Fowler's recommends ize wherever there is a choice, and doubtless Morse knew his Fowler.

I am most grateful for that post, I couldn't see the dictionary being wrong but neither could I see Morse / Dexter being wrong. Yet they were at odds. That last sentence clears the whole matter up. Thank you.
The American in the episode in question, had, if I recall correctly, been in the UK for some considerable time, which would explain his "ise"

I'm happy

Last night I was watching TV in an unheated house with a temperature of fifteen degrees. I cannot say it was pleasant but it was nowhere near as unpleasant as I would have thought.

I remember palindromes were discussed here relatively recently Pete. Sunday was global palindrome day- 02/02/2020, and the first one in 909 years Happy

Only if you’re American. For us, it was just under eight years ago.

Wednesday, 5th January, start 1600

Hack squats, following Rick's sensible method of calling the frame twenty kilos, so these are now total weights

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
120 x 5
130 x 5
140 x 5
150 x 5
160 x 5
170 x 5
180 x 5

Twenty kilos up on last week and while the hip is not one hundred percent it is a lot better than last time despite the extra weight. Home to a very warm house. I will celebrate this warmth by inviting a very attractive to pop round tomorrow and remove most if not all of her clothes, and after that, who knows what :-)

So I believe, and being a leap year it was day 33 with 333 days left

Yes, but 21/02/2012 was a perfectly good palindrome. Hence "eight years ago", not roughly 900.

Ah I see, thanks Rick. Perhaps thats why the recent one was dubbed "global palindrome day", as opposed to "European/Rest of World palindrome day" like the one that occured in 2012. I do enjoy palindromes and palindrome-related news.

Friday 7th February, start 16:00

T bar row, tonight these are in pounds
50 x 10
50 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
100 x 10
100 x 10
125 x 10
125 x 10
150 x 10
150 x 10
175 x 10
175 x 10
150 x 10
150 x 10
The metric weights were all neatly stacked on the hack squat machine where I had left them on Wednesday, but there were four fifties and a convenient twenty five pound plate nearby so I used those.
In the main room I would never dream of leaving a bar loaded but in the machine room I will happily walk away and leave a machine loaded and think nothing of it. I am not alone in this as others do it too. The rules of gym etiquette apply to one room only.
As long as we all sing from the same sheet I don't suppose it matters a jot, I do find it a little odd though.

Sunday I will be reffing and Saturday I have nothing planned so rest will be on the cards. BT vision have the film Joker on sale so I may just purchase that as I do rather fancy it and Dr Rick rates it. If not this weekend, probably another.

There's not really anywhere to put the plates in the machine room, which I suspect is the main reason. I'd like us to sort that out sooner rather than later.

I agree that would be a good thing to do, but the weights in there are both olympic and one inch diameter and the room is mainly for walking through rather than training. So its position on the priority list would be quite low I expect

Bit of a rum old day today. Storm Ciara was promised and arrived and I am not a fan. It was of course, nowhere near as bad as promised but as they were promising armagheddon it was still pretty bad. It mostly held off on the way to the venue but between the squats and bench press it rained heavens hard and some of the rain, disliking its presence outside came in for a warm, the platform avoided most of it but the warm up room copped it. After twenty minutes or so it had abated to where the weather was merely your bog standard "bad" and we soldiered on. It was a site colder after the rain as well.

There was some rather splendid lifting, a 53 kilo lass pulled 150 and put more effort into that lift than I have seen in a long time, she got it too. Star of the show though was an M3 woman who was in her second only comp. She started powerlifting last summer because she could no longer go running due to having both hips replaced, and by her own admission was a bit "flummoxed" by all the rules. Everyone nursed her through it as were rewarded by watching her adding over 100 kilos to the NW total record.

Now that I call impressive.
