After a couple of weeks messing with singles it time for a change, fives should do.

Bench, squat boots on, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
85 x 5
90 x 5
92 x 5
95 x 5
97 x 5
100 x 5
last one paused on all of these, reasonable enough

Tricep pushdown, very strict
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
And that will do, quite quiet tonight but very enjoyable. It's good to be back into a routine

Was it 92 and 97, or actually 92.5 and 97.5?

It was, as I am sure you are aware, 92.5 and 97.5
It is because, as again I am sure you are aware, I am a dreadfully lazy fellow and all those .5's mount up and become tiresome. Plus the columns are more aesthetically pleasing by their omission.
During the last few years you weightlifting chaps have started going up in whole numbers, and while I have no wish to stop you doing this, I will not follow suit and I am far too old, lazy, and stubborn to change my ways.
If you splendid fellows would do me the favour of remembering that when I say two or seven, with reference to my own weights of course, I mean that there is an unspoken reference to .5 after it, I would consider it a kindness.

I recall that Alan used 2.5 increments but I am not sure about that but I do strongly suspect it. However I do recall with certainty my first British record, which was 13 years ago now, it was the 125+ (as it was then) masters 2 equipped squat, held by Dave Turner at 320 kilos. Neither Alan nor I ever countenanced doing 321 or 322, it was always going to be 322.5.

That lift was refereed by the late, great Barry Nelson, who afterwards informed me that I did not need to have done 322.5 but could have settled for 321. I informed him that neither Alan nor I wanted any truck with that. He approved of that, and his approval meant a great deal to me on that occasion.

Powerlifters do it for records and now, weightlifters do it all the time, Vive le difference and all that, but I reserve the right to furrow my brow on such occasions.

Wednesday, 8th January, start 16:10

Squat, sleeves on, boots on, no belt

20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 6
80 x 3
100 x 2
110 x 1
120 x 1
130 x 1
140 x 1
150 x 1
the above raised question marks about the hip
160 x 1
and that answered them, hip is bad
140 x 1
This was the worst of the night, hip ached when on my haunches, a bit more on the way up and most of all as the bar was released. bas***d !
100 x 3
100 x 3
100 x 3
100 x 3
100 x 3
These were OK but they f**kin' well should be, five triples at 100, eleven year old schoolgirls with pink bows in their hair do more than that.
I was feeling very despondent after this lot so big thanks to Handsome Jeff and Mack for knowing what to say and when to say it and the amount of conviction to say it with. I am lucky to have them.
It did cross my mind to stop recording this nonsense, the weights are so low that they are surely of no interest to anyone and my whining and bleating is reaching the point where it is starting to annoy me. Plus it genuinely saddens me to realize how s**t I have become, but the purpose of this, its raison d'etre if you will, is to leave a path for others to follow, so no matter how bad it gets, how gutted I get, it all goes in here. If you know where the dog has s**t you don't have to step in it.

Patrin for powerlifters, especially old, fat ones.

We press on.

"Where are we going?"

"To the optician to get our new glasses"

"Then what?"

"We'll see"

About 18 months ago, I was one session away from quitting. Now I'm at 90$ of M3 British records. Injuries can be debilitating and frustrating, especially at our age. I took the whole summer of 2018 off, and am now benefiting from that and hopefully still have several years in the tank. We're all different, just my two'pennurth.

Remember chaps, we are M3's and as such will have a few more niggles than when we were M1's. Plus they will take a little longer to get better.

My competitive days might be past me now but little in life cheers me up like gym banter with old friends.

If there were ratings for posts I would give that the highest possible and then some.

I never doubted for a minute that the .5s were there in reality Happy
You are correct, Alan did deal in 2.5 increments. In truth the weightlifting 1k increments have only arrived at Adlington with the increase of our competitive weightlifters, so it is solely their fault!!

A mere bump in the road Pete. You will carry on, for that is what you do. You will recover from this injury and squat with pleasure, and verve, and vigour once more. What is more, I, and the rest of Adlington will be there to cheer you on, and pat you deservedly on the back!!
