Spent the day in the referee's chair, well some of it, schlepped through Manchester with the good doctor for a delightful steak served by a splendid waiter who surely can't often get two stranger or more eccentric customers than the good doctor and myself. He took us in his stride and added to the occasion. Talented lad that.

Please tell us more about the waiter if you don't mind...

It probably isn't that often that Hawksmoor witnesses a table of two order four mains Happy.

In my defence, one of mine was as a starter.

A pleasure as always. Sorry I didn't see as much of your lifting as I should have liked to. The fact that you are still out there inspires me. I cannot promise to act on that inspiration, but I am inspired.

He seemed happy that I considered my last visit there to have been the best steak and chips that I had ever had, (it was my first Hawksmoor S & C) and even happier when I also told him that it was better than all previous steak and chips put together. His happiness level ramped up still further when he observed my waistline, it was this observation that convinced him to accept my assurance that I spoke with authority on this matter.

I do like to make people happy

I don't consider a defence necessary. I was hungry and it was delicious. Nothing was left on any plate. The defence rests.

Did you order both mains upfront, or did you finish and think, "I'll have some more of that!"?

Monday, 9th December, start 16:15

Got home from reffing at 7 yesterday evening, made a cup of tea and had half an hour on the web, went for a shower and sat down at 8 to watch "His dark materials" on BBC, woke up at 11 :15 and "match of the day" was on, made a cup of tea and sat down to watch the remainder of it. Woke up at 1, with a still full, cold cup of tea by the side of me. Went to bed, This reffing lark must be harder than it looks. So with that in mind

Bench, very raw,
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
92 x 5
95 x 5
97 x 5
100 x 5
Last one paused on all sets of five, a a hundred was enough for tonight. Very quiet tonight, just me an ju-jitsu guy and then later Handsome Jeff and Ian rolled in. Not busy at all.

Up front. That was always the intention. He did ask if I required two plates but I said I wasn't bothered, "feel free to pile it all on one" I told him, "whatevers easiest for you".
It arrived all on the one plate

Nerve Wracking or racking? I think both will do? What do you use?

I would have gone "wrack" but I was very unsure. So I have checked with the splendid "Brewer's Dictionary of phrase and fable" They say "Rack" and have no entry for "wrack", however Google tells me that "Rack " is the original but "wrack" has become an acceptable alternative. I see no reason to dispute any of that. I would probably stick with "Wrack"

Some people mumble which result in a double take on what was said and a possible heart jump.
Someone said
Paps Chair
I thought I heard
Pap Smear
Someone said
Big Muscles
I thought I heard
Pick My Sores
Does this happen to you?
I have excellent hearing people mumble and I have to dig out what is audible. Speak up peep hole I can’t heard ya!

That's brilliant. It reminds me of Handsome Fred and his two forks.

It does Billy, it does, but I am unable to recall any of them.
The was one while walking down the street in Colne, me, DrRick and Jabba. For the life of me I cannot remember it. Hopefully DrRick will, his brain is considerably larger than mine. It was something to do with how best to frighten a horse.

Our conversation can be quite varied at times.
