From here on.
I shall be doing very little other than posting my training log in video format.

I've re-set all of my old PBs in to most recent max efforts.
I've been working around some osteo-arthritis. Back only.
Retired from kickboxing.

My best strict deadlift ever was 240kg. 260kg hitched in a disgusting manner.
More recently, it was 140kg.

Squats. Well, I did 205kg.
Most recently, 130kg.

Bench. 170kg.
Most recently 130kg.

Started squatting again about a year ago. Deadlifting again (as in, more than one session) only about 3 months ago.

I'm training 3 over 7 days. Every second workout is legs.

Follow me on Instagram. I love you all.
Every one of my fans.

Sadly missing my session this evening for squats. Think I'll squat tomorrow and again on Friday.

A recap from Friday evening.
short but intense.

I am trying to incorporate some of the Yates/Mentzer principals, which work well for me. Some warm ups to movement and BAM, in to the heavy stuff.
I am looking for bodybuilding alongside my strength now.

In my gym, Definition, Peterborough is a beautiful bit of kit.
I assume it is a legit "Viking" press.
Barely anybody uses it so I am lucky to have it there.

I don't know but I feel that it must be around 25kg under the handles.
I'll get a pic so somebody can tell me what it is.

I warm up two or three sets on the deadweight only. Most of that is finding my footing.
Trying to take away any arch.

Set of 8 warm ups.
set of 10.
10kg plate per side for 6.
Repeat.
20kg per side for 6.
30kg per side for 8.
Big breather.
40kg per side for 3 sets of 3.
A minute break between those last three.
straight down to 20s a side for failure.

I feel like I want to use this a lot but I have a little shoulder strain. Not sure the fixed angle is a good thing so might wait a fortnight for another session.

Limited my triceps workout to rope extensions on the cables.
This works my grip as much as my triceps which I love.

I finish with lateral shoulder raises.
I don't assume that these are much good for anything other than rehab pr bodybuilding. Enjoy the exercise though.

Just before lockout, I get 3 sets of dumbbell shrugs with 50kgs per hand.
These feel like lead compared to a year ago.

Does anybody else shrug, or am I a t**t?

I had some sore hamstrings yesterday, so did my alternative workout.
Bit of a mistake, routine wise because my last workout was shoulders and yesterday I did back, biceps and chest.

I didn't get the correct rest period and my shoulders were sore, just benching my warm up.

Felt miserably weak, doing a couple of sets of 5 at 120kg pause presses.

I'm fully committed now to doing heavy shoulder work and just enough chest to keep my pecs looking sexay.

At least I can do full deep sets of dips for 15+, per set.

Last night:

Fixed barbell Tbar row. Medium grip.
There is no forgiveness on this. No cheating on the pulls.
warm up sets, then 5 reps at 70kg.
Very few exercises get me excited like a nice row.

Then, the chest warm up and flat bench.
I've found that, because I have wide shoulders and back, that arching and using foot drive, benefits me quite little. I'm much more of a tricep contributing natural bench presser, a la Samuelsson. I'm going to stay away from trying to get in position like a Mendelson or such. Quite happy for my total weight to suffer because of it.

Pull over nautilus machine.

I did some reverse bicep curls on the fixed ez bar. Something I've never done before.
Hit parts of my arm that I didn't know existed.

And finished on dips. Jailhouse strength forever!

Going forward, I'm going to be using a 448 lifting programme.
I downloaded one called "Ivysaur" (though, I think that is a Pokemon name).

Until I get some recovery and comfort on my chest, I'll have to modify it a bit but it's a 3 day PL centric workout.

It is very bench heavy, whilst always including overhead press at the end. So, being a natty, I'll have to up the calories but also modify the bench pressing for dumbbells and some other exercises. I'll see how decline bench works for an alternate. Otherwise I'll be down a shoulder socket.

But there is a lot more overall volume which I'm happy with.

Mon: Bench 4x4, Squat 4x8, OHP 4x8, Chins 4x8.
Throw in calves too.
Wed: Bench 4x8, deads 4x4, OHP 4x4, rows 4x8.
Throw in biceps too.
Fri: Bench 3x4 (plus amrap), squat 3x4 (plus amrap), OHP 4x8, Chins 4x4
Throw in calves and triceps.

Today, I did a sort of test run, light. Because I'm back in on Monday to give it a full run.
I've not done bench, squat, OHP then chins in that order. Was quite taxing, though I hadn't eaten much.

I think getting up to 125kg bodyweight again is inevitable. As long as I don't grow a gut.

Thanks Will.
I am 122kg. 121 after a poo.

Yes and no.
Yes, because when I met you when you ran your show - that was what I was training for.
No, because I stopped it to get back to kickboxing.

Then, injury crept in and when I started lifting again, it was for remedy, rather than power.

But, now I'm probably going to ever do anything more than spar, I'll be spending my next 12 months powerbuilding. I'm still pretty fit but I can't even deadlift 200kg right now.

Volume and time. I'm confident I'll get strong(ish) again.

When did you last compete, Will?

Yeah. Couple of other of his mates too. Was talking to one of their trainers about conditioning. To be fair, he does follow quite a few people.

Just updated my PBs.
Of course, they aren't really my PBs, which were much higher, but as they were so long ago and I'm working from almost scratch, then I decided to re-set them and work them back up.

Hopefully, to overtake the originals.

Last week's deadlifts were pain free.
Almost SLDL too.
70kg x 8
70kg x 8
100kg x 8
120kg x 8
140kg x 6
150kg x 4

Could have comfortably kept going higher but need to stay on programme.

Also, benching the week before to 140kg for doubles and triples.
Way harder than it used to be.

Squats are killing me but that is about bad eating pre-workout.
130kg back squat is disustingly hard. Unhappy

Another note of eternal gratefulness to Aaron. That barbell has been invaluable for getting back to exercise. Especially post sickness.

Currently only have 90kg of weights.
Pending another 2 x 25kg from strengthshop next month.

Front squatted and was surprisingly happy.

Considering post sickness, my legs were sapped.

Warm up with bar alone.
+ 2 x 15kg for 12 reps
and again
+2x15 and 2x10 for 8 reps
and again
2 x 15 and 4 x 10 for 3 reps
and again

20kg weight vest on
2 more doubles.
i guess it counts as real weight with a vest too. Vest makes front squats muxh harder than another plate.
So 90kg plus a vest for 110kg.

No doms at all. Not sure why.

Deadlift 4 sets of 9 at 90kg.
Almost feels pointless pulling little weight but better than no exercise.

At least when I have 140kg, I can really rep out for some effective exercise.

I've decided absolutely that I'm going to try and get beast arms.
May aswell.

Heavb barbells curls twice a week until they detach of I get 70kg strict for a couple. I think I had 60kg for 6 a couple of years back.

Anybody for a curl off?

Some slight return to form, as far as max estimates go.

Still looking after Aaron's bar (I might actually name it Wee Aaron).

Only have 140kg weights so hard to really gauge but have 18 reps with it for deadlifts so I'm assuming that's somewhere around 220 max. Still not getting close to previous strength but happy for progress.

Only started front squatting before lockdown, so I'm still getting used to it (front arms crossed) and worked up to a comfy 100kg a moment ago.

Also managed to get back to 100kg standing barbell from rack.

Gonna get a bench in a couple of months and another 60kg of weights.

I enjoy working out in the garden waaaaay more it seems, even if it is raining.

Not particularly happy with my bad dieting for a couple of days. Sapped of strength so kept it pretty basic.

Military press from squat stands

14 x 50kg
10 x 70kg
10 x 70kg
8 x 70kg

As strict and cheat free as I can get them

Barbell curls
8 x 50kg
6 x 50kg
6 x 50kg

Also pretty strict

Deadlifts
20 x 100kg
10 x 120kg
5 x 140kg
5 x 140kg
15 x 140kg which I'm happy as larry (not Wheels) over.
Mainly because I am double overhand with no chalk or straps so at least I have some basic grip strength recovered.
