Member 4416, 1369 posts SQ 210, BP 175, DL 240625.0 kgs @ 122kgs UnEq | So, I just started watching this yesterday. Half to go. Anybody else watched it? Anybody know or met Lou Simmons? I wonder how mnuch the bizarre and unnecessarily hostile environment contributed to the success of that gym. Though I never found the Westside method or demeanour appealing, I did recognise that I don't get half as fired up as I should when I lift.

But, other lifters said Louis gave everyone s**t for tapering and deloading, or even taking it easy once in a while. Then there was the en masse federation hopping, to whichever meets would allow them to squat the highest, or - for instance - Dave Hoff to have knee wraps rolled up under his bench shirt. (This actually happened) I like the Westside method. I just feel it was a bit too much of a puff piece as a film.

no really Irish Member 1196, 5908 posts SQ 312, BP 230, DL 320862.0 kgs @ 114kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 21.10.2019 @ 11:13 AM by IrishMarc Watched a crossfit documentary - Redemption or something which was enjoyable apart from the obviously protesting too much PED users pretending to be natty.Watched Westside Documentary straight after the crossfit one it was awful, got about 30-40 min before I tapped out just the usually cringey bulls**t. Try hard virgins.

It is cringe heavy but also has some nuggets in it. I followed Strongman forever but I am still vague on a lot of powerlifting history. If Westside were the example for the general public, it is no wonder that it has an element of not being taken seriously. I saw a handful of "world records" being set with absurd "depth". Now Dan mentioned about that incident. It becomes hilarious. Anybody from their area post here?

And one of the lifters barely mentioned on the documentary, Burley Hawke, is an absolute freak.

Member 4923, 1795 posts | Watched it last night, found it entertaining. Simmons seems an interesting character and a knowledgeable guy. I'm sure creative liberties were taken in the telling of the stories.
