Regular gentle readers will recall that this is a strangely numbered machine, I finished last week at 42 and therefore concluded that 42 would be a reasonable start point as last week was nothing too taxing. I finished at 60 which seemed rather more taxing and strongly resembled a number that was enough, and was sufficient for this evening. Being a thorough chap I noted these oddly spaced numbers in my little book, then being a complete oaf I left the soddin' book at the club. These numbers may not be a hundred percent accurate but they are not a million miles away.

Having typed that last sentence I am reminded just how much I enjoy using the expression "not a million miles away". What a wonderful turn of phrase it is to mean "very close"

How many things are a million miles away ? Not very many at all. It is an unusual expression to use to mean what it does. I do so like our language, you could be forgiven for disbelieving that considering the way I sometimes mutilate it, but it is true. Honest Injun.

It's also funny that the term "a Million Miles away" means you were a VERY long way away...no middle ground it seem! Happy

I recall being in a restaurant with Mr. Littler, I forget the occasion but they had a Christmas menu on all the tables, one of the items on the menu was "a selection of cheeses from near and far" It amused me greatly as I could imagine and unspecified space split into three.

Up to the first split would be near or nearer - there would be cheese from there.
After the second split would be far or farther - there would be cheese from there.
Between the first and second split, that would be farther than near, but nearer than far, and there would be no cheese from there.

This concept caused me to laugh like a drain and everyone in the restaurant looked at me and Andy and wondered what was so funny. Andy wore his best "it's nothing to do with me" face, shrugged a lot and pointed at the Christmas menu, as the other eaters avidly read their copies but sadly could find nothing to suggest such humour, well that just made it all the funnier.

I am happy to report that I have been allowed back in there on more than one occasion.

I have also been enjoying the use of this expression a lot recently.

Last one was paused on all sets, for some time now I have been un-racking the bar myself, it doesn't generally make a great deal of difference but it is certainly no easier. Anyway on the top set tonight I asked for, and received a hand off. It would appear that the difference gets greater as the weight goes up and for me, I should probably stop un-racking by myself around the one hundred mark.

Close grip
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10

Tank emptied quickly on the last set.

Very quiet tonight but those who mattered were there. Enjoyable.

Traffic chaos last night, M60 crawled along for a good few miles and the closer to J16 we got the slower it crawled. Managed to get off at J13 and my problems were over then but the motorway was a disaster and seemed stopped from there.

The reason for all this was a horse, a horse got loose on the carriageway and they just chased it around like the keystone cops.

Shoot it. Just once through the head and drag it to the side. But no, let ten mile tailbacks form in either direction because you have shut the motorway to allow a recalcitrant horse have fun on its new found, eight lane tarmac field. Bah!

Rant over, tonight I deadlift, horses permitting.

Traffic chaos again tonight, no horse this time, just an old fashioned accident. Twice in two nights is rare and really rather annoying.

Deadlift, bar on floor and me on a block approximately two inches thick, slippers
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3
No belt needed. These were really rather fun, very enjoyable, I stopped at 180 as I considered it far enough, with a gun to my head I could have done more but I haven't done these for a while so best to call it a day before it gets too hard.

Although the temperature says different it felt as hot as ever tonight but was was different was a very welcome breeze that came through the fire escape. That was a delight between sets

Today it feels like last night's deadlifts were harder than they felt last night.

As forecast there was a lot of ran overnight, so the drive to work was hazardous, dark, heavy rain, lots of standing water and still I was overtaken more times than I should have been by people who surely could not see.

It's a funny old world

The only drawback to these is that the machine faces a mirror so I have little option to look at myself in it. Tonight I noticed that there is substantially more grey on the right side of my beard than the left.

I have had this before some years back and then it took the left hand side about six months to catch up. So until maybe March next year I will have to look slightly more odd than usual.

I am fine with that.

Dye it! Do like the narcissist do and dye it dark black?
When I was at a gym once I saw this huge dude doing crossover cable chest stuff. He was gleaming in the mirror. He was huge sloppy fake bake tan. Of course I had to shake it up a bit.
I said but 2 words.

Oh good Lord no.

I have no desire to control the colour of the hair as it exits my face and even less desire to change it. Plus permitting an oaf like me to "have at it" with dye is asking for trouble. It would be a mess and no mistake. I can live with grey.
