I have a 2001 mark 4 golf got tdi remapped to about 165bhp. It's great, but needs some money spending on it now. Time to decide if it's time to replace with something newer. It's probably only worth £700 but needs cam belt and water pump. Service. Possibly aircon condenser(?)

Also wouldn't mind a change if I'm honest, and have been wondering about Honda Civic (mark 8-2006-2011).
Any car dudes have any thoughts on this?

There's nothing wrong with a Golf. Would you not consider getting a slightly newer model? Early MK7 TSI?

The reason I'm thinking civic is because it's got a huge boot which is handy for camping. I'm guessing a mark 7 would be upwards of 6 grand. Could get a decent civic for under 4. However...will probably just keep the golf going a few more years tbh. Cheers though

Would you not contemplate something like a Bora, Jetta, or a Passat? I like German cars and hate Civics with a passion. Don't ask why, I just don't like them.

I may as well keep the golf really. It's decent. Had 3 now over the last 7 or 8 years. This one is 165bhp too. Happy
Can always get a roof box if desperate
