I wear the one I've got for probably under an hour a week on average, so I certainly can't justify buying another.

Agreed, but things can and do change.

I tend to own one watch, I sometimes have a cheap alternative for when the pride of the wrist may be at risk but I don't even have one of those at the minute.

Monday, 14th January, start 16:50

Arrived at my usual time but there were several people there before me, one of whom was Big Dave who was doing some shirted benching before his comp on Sunday, this being the case I let him carry on uninterrupted and then started when he had finished.

Bench, very raw, squat boots
20 x 20
20 x 20
20 x 20
50 x 8
60 x 8
70 x 8
75 x 8
80 x 8
85 x 8
90 x 8
95 x 8
100 x 8
Much better than last week. I couldn't have done any more but what I did do wasn't as difficult as last week

Tricep push down
35 x 10
45 x 10
55 x 10
65 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
75 x 10
Triceps are feeling it now, glad that is done.

Not too many down tonight but we did have a newcomer who seemed to show promise and our youngest lifter did a pb snatch that was quite dramatic. All good fun

No training today so I will be home early and will have the news channel on.

I was never a great fan of pantomime but I have to confess that I have enjoyed this one, if only it wasn't quite so serious.Angry Angry Angry Angry

Had to check what I did last Wednesday. If it were squats I knew exactly what squats I did and if it were deadlifts I could remember exactly what deadlifts I did. But I couldn't remember which it was. Turns out it was deadlifts so tomorrow squats, top set 150 again but this time a couple of drop downs after it.

That was easy to type, maybe a shade harder to actually do.

Weight, post shower, as of ten minutes ago - 135.0 kilos, 297 lbs or 21 stone 3

Wednesday 16th January, start 16:20

Right then, here we go -
Squats, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 10
belt on
80 x 10
100 x 10
110 x 10
120 x 10
130 x 10
140 x 10
150 x 10
120 x 10
100 x 10
I got Handsome Jeff to depth nazi the 150 set, one to six were fine, seven was dodgy, eight and nine also fine and ten was slightly dodgy. Number ten I have an excuse for, I was falling apart, but number seven I don't. Still eight out of ten ain't bad so I will happily settle for that. The 120 that followed it was hard but the 100 after that wasn't, but it was a good point to finish at. I would like to think that next time I would manage two sets at 150 but tonight, when that thought passed through my head it seemed a big ask. If it still seems a big ask next time I may experiment with more and maybe higher drop downs. Time will tell.

I was the only powerlifter tonight and those slim, weightlifting fellows do like the heaters on so I was sweating like a bull. All adds to the smell of burning martyr though. Good night tonight, enjoyed it. Knees remain cheerful.

It’s not unusual to somewhat longer a little shaky at 10. It was a long road even when your mind said 9.

You are not wrong Billy, and I did enjoy your choice of song. I quite like Tom, and he doesn't look half bad for touching 80.

He does a cover version of a Leonard Cohen song that I like, I'll find it and post that for you. I admire Cohen's lyrics but he is lacking as a singer. Enter Tom and the business gets done handsomely

I actually just came in her to tell all and sundry that my legs ache.

I do enjoy these little peregrinations. Thank you

Lord is it cold tonight ? It is, very cold, as cold as a blonde's heart, possibly colder. The car says one degree only on the car park and inside it maybe isn't even that. Everything is cold to the touch.

T bar row, weights in pounds
50 x 10
50 x 10
75 x 10
100 x 10
125 x 10
150 x 10
150 x 10

T bar shrugs, still pounds
125 x 10
125 x 10
150 x 10
175 x 10
200 x 10
225 x 10
225 x 10

The cold never used to bother me much but it does now. Maybe it's an age thing or maybe I'm just getting soft, but it bothered me tonight.
Everyone commented on it and of course when the place is full that warms things up a bit but we were very thin on the ground tonight which didn't help.
Dave C lifts this weekend, as does Mack and Haydn so none of them were here tonight.

I also witnessed something the like of which I have never seen before, our youngest weightlifter was down tonight with her mother, as part of her warm up she did some skipping, her mother then proceeded to attempt to join in, so that two people were skipping on the one rope.

I went to an all boy's school so there was no skipping there. The schools before that one were mixed but I can't recall any skipping, so the only skipping I have ever witnessed at close quarters are those boxing chaps who skip at incredible speed but strictly on a one man one rope basis.

Until tonight.

I can say with some authority that tonight our youngest weightlifter and her mother failed utterly to skip together on the one rope, but I have rarely seen two people laugh so long and so hard at their failure to do something. It raised my spirits if not the temperature. It was funny though.

Very funny.

Legs are still aching, there are signs that this will be their last day but they have ached thunderously since Wednesday's squats.
They ached last time but noticeably less than this and yet the only difference in work done was that last time I finished after the top set of 150, whereas this I did a 120 and a 100, both for ten.
Have those two (relatively light) two sets caused all this ?

I'm guessing they must have
