Today's Training.

Just bench today. Did assistance yesterday and will do it again tomorrow. Damp and cold but it's character building, right?

Normal warm up to 100 for 2, then
110 for 1
120 for 1
130 for 1
140 for 1 - just
110 for 5 x 4 sets
110 for 7
Finish.

Nice little session. The 140 was a bit lopsided but it went.

The bad news is the forearm continues to really hurt. I couldn't lift without tight compression. It was on the mend a few weeks ago, now it's as bad as ever. Unhappy Will adrenaline get me through a competition? No idea...

Dreadful. The wheels may be coming off. Not a full session because I'd trained yesterday. I just wanted to try on the bigger bench shirt.

Cut a long story short, I managed a touch with 60 and couldn't unrack 140 because the trapped nerve has come back with a vengeance.

I might have to pull out of the competition, but I still have ten days. Off for a walk and a good think...

Hi Martin

It takes a certain type of stubborness to continue competing as a master, there are more bad days than good but we soldier on.
Is the nerve issue in shoulder, if so you think it's the localised compression of the shirt causing inflammation of tissue around nerve.?

Hi Mate. Extra stubbornness for M3 lol.

Actually it's the opposite problem. All my training has been raw. If anything, the upper arm compression will probably help. I have to wear a floss band tight on the forearm to be able to lift at all. And I struggle with high reps because each rep the pain builds a little bit more. Yet for rowing, pulldowns, etc, no pain...

Today's Training

Just bench today. I did all the assistance yesterday, and I'll do it all again tomorrow. I was hoping to get a shirt on today, but both the guys I was going to train with called off. That's pretty much cemented my decision to lift classic next weekend.

The trapped nerve was so bad I couldn't do 40 without compression. But today, the pain was in the wrist, which meant I could lift wearing a wrist wrap instead of a floss band, which is the next best thing to pain free.

Usual warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
141.2 for 1 (0.6 magnetic micro plates either side)
120 for 3 x 4 sets
120 for 5.

I'm probably more pleased with the 120 for 5 than with the 141.2. More signs of progress.

I'm guessing floss bands are not allowed in competition?

You guess right Wayne. And the wrist wrap can only go a max of 10 cm above the wrist joint.

What's your target for the comp? 145?

A bit more modest. 141.2 was right on my limit and the pause will take something away. A 130 opener will qualify me for the 2020 British Equipped so I'll open on that, then do a 5 or 7.5 jump depending on how the 130 feels. The Scottish M3 record, which I hold, is 140, so maybe 140.5 third lift? But I don't know if I'm there yet. Long term, the plan is to open next time on what I finish on this time. )

Today's Training

After several distractions and interruptions, and with an arm so sore that it needed compression at 40 Kg. I even wore elbow sleeves today to try and get a bit more compression, as the pain was running from the wrist to the biceps. Seemed to work.

Bench
Usual warm up to 100 for 2 (should have been 3 but I forgot!) then
110 for 3
125 for 3 x 5 sets

Dumbell Curls
20s for 10 x 5 sets

Finish.

Delighted with that. 125 is my comeback triple pb, and I managed 5 sets with it. On set 4, I could probably have done at least one more rep and the triple was done on a single breath.

Assistance work tomorrow, hopefully at least one triple with 130 on Wednesday, and then time to rest up for the weekend. Happy

Today's Training

A cold and icy garage today, but with an extra layer, a hat and a hood I didn't let a wee bit of cold deter me. Assistance work today.

Seated Rows - 80 for 10 x 5 sets
Lat Pulldowns - 55 for 10 x 5 sets
Facepulls - 35 for 10 x 5 sets
Waistpulls - band work for 20 x 5 sets
External Rotations - 2.5 for 20 x 5 sets
T Pulls - band work for 20 x 3 sets
W Pulls - band work for 20 x 3 sets
Finish.

I started doing some shoulder raises but suddenly ran out of energy so left it there. Blood sugar might have dipped.

One more session before the competition. Heavy (for me) triples tomorrow.

Today's Training

Last session before Sunday's competition. Time to practise what I preach.

Bench
Usual warm up to 100 for 2
120 for 1
140 for 1
130 for 3 (comeback triple pb by 5 kilos)
130 for 1 (to commands)

Dumbbell Curls
20s for 12 x 2 sets
20s for 15

Finish

No need to do more. Your last session doesn't make you stronger, but it can make you weaker. Just check your opener and then chill.

They say open on your best triple, and 130 is the equipped qualifier for next year's Equipped British Bench. It'll be nice to hit that number with a raw opener. And 15 reps with 20 Kg dumbbells!!? If I keep on like this I might even grow some biceps.

Now for a few days rest.
