Friday, 29th June, start 16:00

Already a few down when I arrived, and it's hot, very hot, hotter than hell. I had a change last week and rather enjoyed it, so same again.

Barbell bent row, very strict
20 x 10
25 x 10
30 x 10
35 x 10
40 x 10
45 x 10
50 x 10
55 x 10
60 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10
75 x 10
80 x 10
85 x 10
90 x 10
95 x 10
100 x 10
It was a bad night for a lot of bending over, this many weights means that many weight changes and that means bending, straightening up again and then bending some more. It was a long and sweaty night, but it was fun and it's done now. A week tomorrow I have reffing duties so this weekend will involve a deal of keeping still. I will be most disappointed if it does not.

On the way up to Adders earlier (still no training on a Sunday but I do still dine there) I took the scenic route as is my wont and this involved one junction on the M60 clockwise carriageway) there have been roadworks on this stretch for the past four years while they converted it to a smart motorway.

This has involved miles of cones while seemingly absolutely nothing happened. From time to time it did appear that something might have happened but this was generally so slight that one was never certain.

On Friday some roadsigns appeared over each carriageway, the ones that tell you the speed limit at that moment, and today there was definite signs of resurfacing and some repainting of lanes. We may just about have reached the beginning of the end. If this isn't completed in the next twelve months I will be very surprised. The excitement is palpable.

It was just the fact that it was with sunglasses, that's what threw me. As a long time glasses wearer I would have to have prescription sunglasses which are an extra expense for something that I don't need, so I have never worn them, not ever if I recall correctly. If it is a truly bright day I see no harm in them but many wear them when overcast or even indoors, this always surprises me. Now it would seem anoraks do to.

Reactor lights are very popular and quite effective in bright lights. Could be that? Also, prescription sun gigs aren't necessarily expensive. I get two pairs for £80 which includes varifocals and suns. Mix and match. Stick with me here. The problem with cheaper glasses is that you have quite a few pairs, and I have found that having ample glasses around leads to a blase attitude to having the correct ones with you . I have two pairs of screen gigs, which stay at work and at home, a pair of varifocals with straight ear rests to slip on with a crash helmet (which stay in my biking jacket), sunglasses and standard varifocals. I can't do a lot of things with the wrong bins so can understand someone getting caught short. That said, I'm quite new to being a full on speccy 4 eyes and accept that it may not be the norm to have more sets of eyewear than Worzel Gummage had heads.

I have worn glasses for so long that I cannot remember ever not wearing them. My defective eyesight was discovered in infant school so I was probably about five or six years old when I started wearing them. The defect in one eye was much greater than the defect in the other, the layman's term was a "lazy eye" so I spent a long time with a patch over one lens on the better eye with the intention of it making the weaker one work harder. I assume that failed as even now, many years on the lens on my left eye is double the thickness of the lens in the right. However it was never a problem as I had but one pair of glasses that I put on as soon as I got out of bed and removed them only when I got back into it. Mother always assured me that the cost of sunglasses was prohibitive and I was in no position to argue as it would have been she who paid.

I did discover however that as life went on I never missed not being able to wear sunglasses as the times when they are actually necessary is more or less never. There may be many times when there are convenient, but in my experience, they are never necessary.

About seven or eight years ago it was discovered that I needed reading glasses, this phucked me right up and now I cannot read in my "seeing" glasses and can only read in my readers. As I am so bolloxed without my readers I have two pair, one at work and one at home. Although I moan about it, it is a small price to pay for being able to see.

Anything other than bog standard glasses sound way to complicated for me. I am after all a man who thought "EXIT" meant something else. So Bi and Vari focal have never appealed as they sound like a sure fire way to restart my falling over escapades

I think I'm going to have to give in to reading glasses soon.

It's all down to arm length. When your arms are straight and you still can't read it, then you know it's time.

That m60. Has been a bane of my life for the past 4. Years . I started a job in Trafford in late 2013 and was assured the roadworks would last till 2017. Now it's 2018.

It's the bane of many lives, It may not get finished this year even, but at least now it is starting to look like it might.

It's been worse for people who use it at night as they do tend to close parts of it at a minute's notice and then don't put diversion signs up. This hasn't affected me at all but if you ever want to hear a well thought out rant from the good Doctor this is as good a topic as any and a better one than most to get one.

I got the varies so I could look at my running/ cycling gadgets whilst, well, running and cycling.

The sunglasses are pretty much essential for me too as I have terrible light sensitivity, to the point of blinding me in moderate sunshine. Looking cool is just a side effect of being able to see.

I am after all a man who thought "EXIT" meant something else.

I recall it was a bit more than that. 4 x "EXIT" signs in 12" lettering all pointing at the same 9 foot exit
Grin

Less than 12 miles from your house and by bike is mostly along NCN55. Brilliant low traffic route. Disused railway from New Bury to Monton, which has been. Bridgewater canal from Monton to the Trafford centre. Ride like that would cleanse the soul.

Monday, 2nd July, start 16:00

Still very, very hot

Deadlift, no sleeves but squat boots on
60 x 5
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
100 x 3
100 x 3
140 x 2
160 x 1
180 x 1
190 x 1
200 x 1
210 x 1
220 x 1
180 x 3
180 x 3
180 x 3
The only dodgy one was the 190 that somehow got a bit lost on the way up, the rest were fine though, not as fast or as snappy as I would like but that will come back soon enough. The knees were fine throughout and I realized as I prepared to do my very last set that I hadn't used any chalk at all tonight. Usually around the 190 / 200 mark things get so I start to think about chalk, but tonight it never crossed my mind. Not sure what that means but I will take it as a positive sign.

Don't get me started PED, the average speed limit bullocks which does nothing but raise money.

I would have to disagree with that. Yes it does raise money, and plenty of it, but only from those dumb enough to donate their hard-earned in that way.

They do also keep everyone to the same speed and that is proven to ease traffic flow and therefore, in my eyes should be applauded.

The sad bit is that the average motorist has to be forced to do this as he / she doesn't have the wit to drive in a manner that is beneficial to the collective good without it.

When I'm king there will be speed cameras everywhere and I used the term everywhere quite correctly. EVERYWHERE ! EVERY-f**kING-WHERE !
