Excellent. I see from the entry list that we're (currently) lifting in the same flight.

Splendid news. I shall look forward to it even more now.

I haven't decided what I would like to total yet, right now I would settle for nine lifts and consider the weight a bonus.

Just had a quick look at the entries and so fat there are about eighteen entries, two of which are M4 which means that they are at least 70, to be still lifting at that age is seriously impressive, I may just try to pick their brains while I am there, they will be well worth chatting to.

I am beginning to think that a few singles might be a good idea for tomorrow

Monday, 25th June, start 16:10

Hot today, very hot, car says 29 degrees, I have no reason to disbelieve it.

Squat, raw, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 2
belt on
120 x 1 well in and easy
140 x 1 well in and easy
160 x 1 borderline but easy
170 x 1 well in and easy
180 x 1 well in but slower
190 x 1 well in and not as slow as the 180
200 x 1 just in and hard
160 x 3
160 x 3
160 x 3
The term "well in" here refers to well in by my standards

Now that the competition is visible on the horizon I have to turn my mind as to what exactly I want from it. The good old days of opening on a 200 squat and having 220 as a confident second attempt and a real possibility of a 600 plus total are gone. Hopefully they will be back but they aren't here right now.

The main aim is to get nine lifts in and I could say that the total doesn't matter, but it does and we all know it does. I decided to take ten percent off 600 to account for the trial and tribulations of the past year and aim for 540, so 190 / 130 / 220 would manage that, and I should be able to manage those as third attempts. Judging by tonight's singles 190 seems a reasonable last squat and to be honest I don't think there is much more available right now and little time to find it.

So I have pencilled in the above and we will see what we will see. Less than 540 and there could be tears, all of them mine, and any more there could be a smile on my face and a spring in my step. But once we have actual competition numbers we can build from there.

On my way into work I pass a railway station, most mornings I pass a chap walking towards that station, he is in his forties or fifties, slim, short and has a beard. Today he wore an anorak and sunglasses. Is it me or is that unusual ?

I would say that is reasonably unusual given the weather. Having found myself in a pub wearing a wetsuit and life jacket before, I would also say there could easily be a good reason for it.

Naw, I work about ten minutes walk from Irlam station but rarely pass it in the course of a day. It was Glazebrook, just opposite where the Rhinewood used to be, there are houses on that site now, glazebrook meadow if I recall correctly.

This store where I live sells different brands of bottles of root beer. Do you like root beer?

It was Glazebrook

Hmmm. Not really Glazebrook behaviour. Did he have other clothes on or just the anorak and sunglasses?

An anorak in this weather means one of 2 things:

1. He has a very very underactive thyroid

2. He is a masters powerlifter with a 24 hour weigh-in and is trying to do a drastic 20lb+ weight cut.

Never had it Billy, only ever heard of that in American TV programmes, I dare say you could find it over here but you would have to go find it specially. It isn't something I have ever just stumbled across

Oh I think it is. It is a bit "land that time forgot" out there. He had other clothes, seemingly quite normal ones

My money is on the first of those. One the other hand he has a beard, so he can't be all bad
