Monday, 7th May, start 15:15. Bank holiday

Deadlift, pumps with orthotics, no sleeves
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
160 x 3
180 x 3
190 x 3
200 x 3

Very hot tonight, the outside temperature was 26 degrees C or 79 F which is hot whichever way you cut it, I am happy to report that the knees are much better, just walking around there is now only a hint of an ache rather than an actual ache and during the lifts they hardly ached at all. Up to and including the 190 were all really rather easy and pleasant but the 200 seemed like a lot more than ten kilos heavier than the 190. The first was a bit of a shock, the second was fine and the third was ok but the grip was just starting to go on the right hand, so I couldn't have held it for as long as I would have liked, the casual observer would not of noticed, but I did. So, happy day overall, from now we start to build, gently does it, not of this bull at a gate nonsense, but at least we appear to be getting somewhere.

Disturbed is indeed a great choir. Do you know this one?

At work now so i will listen at home later.

I had never heard of them Billy, as I left for the gym yesterday there was a programme on the radio playing famous covers of famous songs, the "sound of silence" one was playing as i drove away so I only heard the last half of it but I really liked it so youtubed it on my return and liked it so much that I had to share

One of my favorite covers (their cover of Genesis's Land Of Confusion is on that list too), and probably my karaoke choice in future.

Wednesday, 9th May, start 16:00

Quiet tonight, and a lot cooler

Bench, very raw
20 x 15
20 x 15
20 x 15
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5
117 x 5
The 110 set was easy, the 117 wasn't, just made the last one, maybe throttle back for next week before picking up again

Close grip bench
65 x 8
75 x 8
85 x 8
95 x 8
After the rather grueling last set on the normal grip I knew that anything over 100 on these was highly unlikely so I upped it to numbers ending in "5" and just did four sets, the 95 wasn't too bad. 105 would have been though

Following on from my recent post concerning the price of fish and chips, I found myself back in the very same chip shop today and the lass who owns it told me that she had been there twelve years and back then a fish was £3, and now, twelve years on, the price had only gone up by forty pence.

Right from the word go there were all rather wearily done, I worked my way up to ninety to see if things got any better and they didn't. Therefore under the "Kim's clitoris" training principle I declare this session to be over. I walked to the pub for lamb shank and mash and veg and then back to the club for the car and then home.

Thinking about it on the drive home this session may have been affected by more than I would have thought by the introduction of "fives" on a Wednesday. Something just to keep in mind but I will be very surprised if the two are unconnected.

While walking to the pub earlier today, the sun was behind me as as I am not a vampire my shadow was in front. For the first time I can remember my beard was visible on my shadow. Guess it's time for a trim.

I apologize unreservedly for that. Should the bearded shadow reappear it won't be for the first time. Maybe it won't panic me quite the same

Monday, 14th May, start 16:00

It was quite chilly this morning when I went to work, but it was very hot when I left just after three. The club however is borderline cool, I will get a shift on before people arrive and warm things up.

Squat, very raw, sleeves and boots on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
belt on
160 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3
The knees have ached slightly today, not constantly, just sometimes, with no rhyme or reason to it, but tonight, during this lot they didn't ache at all. I experimented with the belt and instead of putting it on as a matter of routine at the start, I decided to see how far I could get before I considered it necessary. This worked well tonight as when I did put it on I really felt the benefit. Mack and Dave C spotted me for the top set and Handsome Jeff depth nazied for me. "Only just - go lower" was the cry after the first one, "Better" was heard after the second, silence greeted the third but once the bar was back in the rack I was told that it was the best of the three. As if that wasn't enough none of them were really that hard. All in all a good session and one that I am happy with. A hundred times better than the one a fortnight ago, it would appear that sitting still and pressing buttons on plastic chairs, while a worthy cause in itself, doesn't help training much.
