I quite like the titanium version but that weighs in at £7100 Happy

From memory they are all titanium. They tend to do rather outre colours (which I generally like) class them as special and limited editions and add another grand. I won't stand for that kind of nonsense but have no objection if others do.

maybe.. but there's 2 ways to 'visit Latvia'.
one involves a catching a flight to Riga; the other an emotion and lust-fueled rollercoaster ride of spectacular proportions ;-)

The latter half of your final sentence is one of the finest I have ever read, thank you

Splendid.

I must confess that I do have a slight admiration for those who just don't care. My dear friend Wiggers once told me that his wife bought him a watch and he set it to the clock on the cooker and that was that. He had no idea if the cooker clock was correct and therefore no idea if his watch was. Of course he knew that it couldn't be much out, but in my view, that is hardly the point.
I remember the look of astonishment when I told him that I checked mine every week, just as he no doubt remembers the look on mine when he told me he hadn't checked it since !
My life does not run on those sort of rails, my watch has to be checked just as I cannot fill up the car without remembering the figures and working out the MPG when I get home.
As Sherlock Holmes once said "I crave data"

The clock in my work van is 5 minutes slow and in my own car 2 minutes slow, I could change them but I haven't.

Oh, a timepiece that lost or gained time would definitely bother me too...but if I made a point of checking it every week I would suspect that small amount of variance, adjusted out every week, would be very much secondary to other considerations.

Mind you I haven't worn a watch for years and would probably find it very uncomfortable now to do so.

I used to train with a guy from Latvia who was quite a nice bloke but came from a tragic background. When he was about 3-4 his father fell foul of the local mob boss which resulted in him being deposited in portions in the family bin. Whilst the mother took said young son and fled to the Manchester burbs for safety straight after, the young man struggled to let it go and openly admitted that all his training was to enable him to return and let vendetta run it's course. Hopefully he was able to move on, but I doubt it. Life eh? Unhappy

My watch purchasing advice would be to spend a £500 on a weekend in New York and save £1500 by buying duty free...
Win Win!

But at least you know how wrong they are. The clocks go forward at the end of this month, there an opportunity if ever there was one, go on, enrich your life*, put them right.

*Only by a very tiny amount but as Tesco like to say, every little helps

That is very sound advice for anyone bar me. I really don't like to travel, can you really get a weekend in NY for £500 ? That seems remarkably good value.

I would do the travelling for you, you just pay for the trip, everyone's a winner ouefs sur LA table as they say in France.

You should write a book about your life in lifting and the people you've met.

The eggs are on the table ? What does that mean in English ? My knowledge of French is not great, like most of my school days I used to get punched a lot. A fist, regardless of its owner speaks in one language only.

Why the capital letters for "la" ?

Questions aside, it is a kindly offer, but I couldn't ask you to do that, it's far too big an ask.

he means 'oeufs sur le plat' surely. a french dish, consisting of one or more fried eggs on a plate and nothing else.
suppose this could be also referred to as 'petit déjeuner anglais tres minimaliste'
