I just think having the option to rest on the Viking press is good. Makes for better TV and allows athletes to lift more.

The old rule of once it’s put down you can’t return is crap.

What’s the rule on most strongman competitions re. Viking Press and whether you can put it down?

I never new there was a rule that said you couldn't? Why would there be?

I do think the events were setup to give Hall the best possible chance of winning but both Thor and Shaw had a chance. Ed was hardly handed it on a platter.

Anyone else super impressed by him almost Speed reping 472.5KG at the end of days and days of competition?

Viking press rules vary. I've seen both and done both.

I’ve seen it at worlds before in the heats, and once you put it down you couldn’t lift again.

No throw event
No test for grip
Two powerlifting movements squat /deadlift
Pressing event, was all about shoulder power. No worry about clean needed like barbell or log.

Definitely a few changes

No I have a lump there whenever I squat, pretty sure there’s no muscle there?!
Why are his traps so pointy?!

There has been viking press in WSM heats only. For the last 10 years not a single viking press event with rest.
Also the world record of Radz 170x13 was no rest again.

Yes. Some subtle but all changes suit Hall. I don't believe that was a coincidence.

It's the only time we have ever had the three static events in the final since 1997 I think and back then there were 8 events. First time in decades we have seen deadlift for max used twice.

It's certainly the least athletic final there has ever been at WSM.
