So I heard Rio want to take up Boxing, the clips on YouTube seem a bit hoax like to me, but it's in the papers so I guess it's true, looks like he has a good reach and good foot work, what's everyone think do you think he has potential ?

At 38 training against people who'll probably have been fighting years and years he's got no potential. He'll be rubbish against all but the worst pro's I think.

I assume he will destroy everyone as the real trained boxers won't be able to deal with the angles a complete novice will present

I wish him a boxing career free of both serious injuries and televised fights.

There was a 28 year old on this site, who met someone who "shown me some basics and within 2 day he's saying i could be british champion in 3-5 years."

He took this with a pinch of salt, until he realised "I already have a lot more speed and agility than most heavyweights".

And showed just what an expert he was by, some would say controversially, stating, "Anthony Joshua, who just had his first pro fight (against another guy with almost zero technique, whom had somehow managed to beat 8 fighters out of 8 prior - !), looked like he had the punching power of a featherweight, poor defense at best, and a big lack of movement".

Seems he was, er, correct about Joshua. Apart from the heavyweight titles of course.

Alas, he turned down million pound paydays, because the boxing practice hurt his shoulder and affected his legs recovering after hack squats.

If he could have been The Great White (Carpetbagging) Hope - surely Rio is not without a chance?

Squatting isn't doing my back any good.

This is only for a TV show anyway. He's not really taking up boxing.

As mentioned above, age would be his main barrier if he was seriously thinking of a boxing career.

Perhaps the most important question to ask is this:

What is Rio Ferdinand like standing on ice?

All people who know their boxing know that unless this is you:

YOU GOT NO CHANCE. (Even if you catch dropped glasses on the regular - and are faster than your cat)

I don’t know enough about boxing to comment but I agree with dan, he’s an educated lad and I’d trust him with my life

Listen, I am no expert - but there are people on here who really know their boxing. And basal metabolic rates.

AMH doesn't have any science backing his theories.

Real people pull random stuff from the Internet - or forego actual tuition in favour of dvds - and set impossible time-frames and unrealistic goals. All the while dog whistling towards PED use, before playing dumb when signing up for tested competition.

I wonder what Rio's "supplements" are like?
