I believe the Pendlay rows and DOHG axle deadlifts have improved my ability to clean from increased grip and back development. Technique in log pressing improving, feel more confident. Are you managing to balance the challenge of shift patterns and night work with the need to regain swoleness? I am becoming a mirco-sized version of my former self. Will soon (probably next week) be sub 80KG. The axle deads are definitely a great idea for a bit of variety, but I was wondering whether - with grip being the limiting factor that it is - whether you are still able to move enough weight for the deadlift itself to give you a workout. I think I would struggle with that, even though I am much weaker now and don't need the same amount of weight to challenge me on deads - even at circa 100KG axle reps. Dzekuie. | ||

It is difficult. It's not the length of 12 hour shifts in particular but more the change over back and forth night to day hours. When I don't train for a period of 3/4 plus days it's because I am on a run of shifts and lack sleep and brain is desynchronised and discombobulated. Just as I reach a routine of sleep cycle again I convert back to day or night shift run. So I train permitted I feel am rested enough in-between shifts. I am doing DOHG axle deadlifts for grip and with a view of improving my axle pickup for overhead press. Improving my forearm and grip power will carryover to regular deadlifts so grip will never be the failing factor. With all the training together you become overall stronger and I don't believe it's good practice to regularly max out in the deadlift or other. Leave that for competition. | ||
