I know you might be starting to think that I am a buy British evangelist but it is shocking to see just one UK company on this list :-
SBD UK.
Most are Sweden or Finland :- Eleiko, Leoko & Metal.
Denmark :- ER Equipment.
USA :- Ivanko Inzer and Rogue.
Australian :- Iron Tanks, Beast Genetics and Awesom as.
Tokyo :- UESAKA
Even Zaoba Bull which again is the far east.
..Nothing from UK with plates, bars and racks, complete zip.
We do not manufacture anything to make it at IPF approved level when it comes to equipment.
Well done to SBD for flying the flag for apparel.
Well done to the Aussies also.

Is this particularly shocking?

Do me it is, when you consider we should have a UK manufacturer who should be able to put forward a IPF squat rack or IPF barbell or IPF weight discs.
The Australians can.
We have a strong heritage of strongman, powerlifting and weight lifting yet we can only make fabric...good that SBD do and well done to them.

...But no not in the grand scheme of things in life, shocking is not the correct word.
More disappointing that we don't.

I might well be wrong here, but i thought it was a case of paying the IPF license money for your kit to be accredited (assuming it is up to some standard of course), but it costs loads so isn't necessarily worth it unless you have the product, brand or marketing to beat the other producers in that item/equipment category that it'd actually pay off.

Probably wrong though.

I may be wrong, but I think you have to pay for your gear to be assessed by the IPF.

Factor in that Elieko and SBD are their "Official VIP Sponsors" and there seems to be something of a hurdle/conflict of interest in getting anyone else's gear on the proverbial top table.

Why aren't you making anything that's IPF approved?

I think you all have valid points IPF license and paying money for kit to be accredited is true to a degree, but the kit has to meet the standard.
Aaron J, I am only making a friendly point that it is a shame that UK strength manufacturing companies are few and far between and we do not have a barbell manufacturer at all, if I was a strength/powerlifting manufacturer and serious about my business, I would try for approval or jump through the hoops for it.
Most powerlifting barbells state they have the correct markings but are not IPF approved.
Wolverston Fitnss said a Texas Powerlifting Bar is not IPF approved but neither would their Bison Bar be either. Wolverston are distributors/wholesalers not manufacturers. Only someone in the UK like Watson Gym could really be serious about IPF approval for a serious bench press unit or rack. I take it even in the USA EliteFTS or Westside Barbell are not IPF approved but an company with limited heritage like Rogue are with their barbells so maybe marketing and big money is what pulls the strings after all with the IPF.Happy

Of course marketing and big money pull the strings at the IPF - twas ever thus - that's exactly how such bodies stay afloat / fatten themselves off the land (delete as appropriate).

Many of you would know this more than I but given the sizeable fee involved are any of the UK Companies doing enough Business to warrant the investment, projecting ahead?

Strengthshop singlets and belts are also IPF-approved, fyi. Don't know if they qualify as "made" in the UK. Is SBD stuff actually manufactured in the UK?

its not that we dont have companys that make good enough kit as we do

Kustom kit for example, the issue is the ipf fee the ipf want £1000s just for kit to be approved

The Strength Shops racks, barbells and plates are all made in the far east.
None of this would be IPF approved.

Their IPF approved apparel is Inferno Knee Sleeves, Singlets and Lever Belts.
I will find out if they are British made.

I'm mostly unsure, but i believe bulldog make barbells in the uk - crossfit, yeah, but a quality steel bar is a quality steel bar (i think)

In fairness Bulldog Gear UK are manufacturing their composite barbell in the UK, it is having an upgrade I think to the sleeve which will improve the overall barbell.
They are the only Barbell UK manufacturer of a Olympic Barbell.

Watson Gym is mainly a York bar.

Fats bars and specialist bars we do manufacture some on these shores.

I agree about Kustom Kit Gym Equipment a good UK manufacturer of solid kit.

I cannot believe Rogue who built their name on Crossfit are now IPF approved for their barbells. The Ohio Power Bar is a IPF approved bar and a good bar in fairness. Westside Barbell helped I would think to break Rogue into the powerlifting market.

You can state made to IPF specification but not IPF approved unless the product is.
