I recommend the track - Slut Machine Member 6043, 955 posts SQ 350, BP 195, DL 350 895.0 kgs @ 150kgs UnEq	I'm seriously considering part time education to retrain in this type of field. I cannot continue in my current job until retirement and I'm not getting any younger so I need to think long term. So far Osteo looks the most fun appearing to be a chiro/sports massage type hybrid. If anyone on here does this sort of thing for a living I'd really appreciate your 'brief' views on what it's like as a career and for those who are self employed whether it is a stressful industry or not i.e too little/much work. The training is all degree level 4/5 years full time and so part time would be both difficult and expensive I imagine. Would becoming qualified and practicing in something like sports massage which is possible in as little as 6 months be beneficial? Jack Revans please don't lock this career based thread with smut.

What's the cost of uni. Is it £9k per year? £45k for a degree which gets you a job at the end. Buy a block of flats with that instead then recycle your money back out and go again.

Both build on the more sports focus of physio and osteopathy, which whilst do contain musculoskeletal and sports elements it's not the primary focus. Quite a few Universities do part time routes over 5-6 years leading to accreditation with SST / STO / BASRaT. Lots of roles within sports clubs and organisation in addition to explore work at afterwards. There are Level 3 and 4 certificates in sports massage and injury rehabilitation that would enable you to do a certain level of practice too but not a high level

FYI I have secured a place on a course starting in the new year for Level 3 sports massage, I also intend to do level 4 after that which will allow me to start making money from it. If I can generate enough income to earn £15k it will allow me to go part time in my current job which would mean I work 4 days on, 12 days off, doing sports massage on my 'off' days and still matching my current wage which would be amazing. This would also afford me both the time and much needed credits to get on a uni course if I decided to go that way. I feel very happy to be implementing the beginnings of change

I actually think it's very fulfilling to feel that you've earned your money. I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting back and having money flowing in my direction, even if I'd initiated that process with a bit of ingenuity. I realise that this makes me very odd though

I feel very happy to be implementing the beginnings of change my physio does 2/3 days her own business and couple still with NHS, charges £30-£35/hour for deep tissue/rehab. so even 10 hourly clients a week at this rate will see you to £15k turnover. btw remember to factor in accountant fees, any travel/premises/equipment (all tax deductable) and 20% corp tax in any gross. (no idea how VAT would work with physio, I add 20% and give 14.5%(IIRC ?) back to HMRC on flat rate)

vhs porn Member 5081, 170 posts SQ 226, BP 160, DL 248 634.0 kgs @ 109kgs UnEq	Post Edited: 21.11.2016 @ 10:55 AM by jwp When i left the army i did a 2 year sports therapy course at college (for free), planning to go to chichester uni and do the sports therapist degree (for free, blair's britain!) - had to bin it off after college though because wife/kids/mortgage etc. From what i've learned: Find what you want to get into then find the degree - there is no "standard" like with physiotherapy, each university offers a slightly different course, and is aligned with a slightly different professional body, who deals with different a business/customer base - so the degree that will get you employed as a physical rehab therapist with the army (civillian) doesn't mean st to sport england, who's quals are pretty meaningless to the nhs, who don't care what the FA are looking for (all made up as i last looked into it circa 2010 but you get the gist), so figure who you want to work with, what union/professional membership/certifying body recruits etc. for them, what degree course they accept and what uni(s) offer it. Apparently you have to be prepared for a LOT of moving around, chasing the work, offering a lot of free time etc. until you have either built a reputation/level of trust or got an 'in' with somewhere with an actual budget etc, and those first years are a real stsnack. Looking back, a massage qual was a real boon for those others who continued with it all, as they could make good money during uni and while scrabbling for those initial real world years, and if you can get in to the nhs it adds a fkton of stability to your career(life), but also ties you down to that location. It seems a very self employed kind of field where you are chasing down the big money professional sports contracts by working for free at every other poorly funded athletics' meet and amateur netball tournament until someone notices you or you can self promote better than all those 'the apprentice' waers, except you have to be st hot on your knowlege and skills too, no blagging it. Of the 18ish who started our course, about 10 finished, i heard 7 of those finished uni and 2 actually work in the field, because there were too many physios graduating and the nhs didn't want them so they flooded every related field, and physiotherapy is a chartered profession or some st so their quals carried a lot of weight that could easier cross the political squabbles between the certifying bodies or whatever.
