by this I mean no hooking, standard overhand. normal bar (Texas DL, Eleiko power etc)

I did 230kg last night which was an easy deadlift weight, but felt much more would unroll my fingers before i'd got it locked.
Mark Snape did 260kg same grip on the same bar a few months ago at Ralls.

Anyone got any idea what is a really good standard to aim for? 600lbs?

Anything over 200kg is a good starting point... I say that because my best DOH no hook is 210 haha.

But 600lbs onwards would be a very good grip IMO.

Savage would love this.

Is it relative to strength level?

I can deadlift anywhere between 230-240 with good form mixed grip. Struggle with 170 DOH. Though the bars in my gym are quite smooth. Though there is one bar with decent knurling now.

Must try it.

I would say 200kg is a good shout for a good grip.

Savage can DOH a fat bar 220-230kg. I remember seeing a video.

I just hope this grip focus is going to translate into bigger mixed grip pulling.

230kg on a fat bar is on a different level to a normal bar.. wonder what paul can do on a standard bar?
in fact is it possible that his deadlift itself could be the limiting factor not
the double overhand grip? that would be extremely rare thing.

I was wondering this yesterday about some grip guys. I was thinking about how good they'd be at farmers holds but then thought some of them might not be strong enough in general to be good at it

thanks! i feel my grip is a massive issue in deadlift hence the query, as it's not a grip a lot of people max out on normal deads - most i see are mix gripping from the lightest warmups.

Anything over 220 id class as good grip. 260 would be among the countries elite, and 300 has been done by only a handful of men on the planet.

This is a big issue in Grip Sport - a lot of the guys might be focusing on Grip because they have a back injury, or come from a sport where overall body strength in terms of lifting heavy things isn't a premium (rock climbing, arm wrestling etc) and so selecting events where your hands become the actual limiting factor has become difficult and the cause of a great deal of controversy.

My DOHG Olympic bar deadlift is about 100kg less than my alternate grip deadlift.

Currently training DOHG on a 50mm axle and it's really difficult (reaching approximately 2/3 of my Olympic bar DOHG). I used to have forearm DOM's for days, although they have lessened now.

228kg is my best overhand axle. Honestly I'm not sure what I can deadlift at the mo, just know its probably a good bit more than I used to be able to do. I also don't know what I could hold onto overhand grip. My best one hand deadlift was triples at 140kg each hand on a thicker than normal bar, that wasn't with much specific training though. I did 200kg for 3 singles each hand in training for british grip championship but that was using hook grip.

As for the original question, 200kg+ is going good. I'd say 280kg is world class if the bar has good spin etc possibly more on a deadlift bar but never used one. Big tel said he had done 340 or 360kg on the gripboard, but most I've seen on video is 300 by a few.

A bunch of grip competitors would benefit from more general strength training imo but a lot of best tend to be strong enough all around that they would still do well.

What I would say though is that they wouldn't necessarily win these kind of events against the top strongmen, however the top strongmen wouldn't win vs the top grip competitors in grip contests, and that's what they train for.
