even though I don't think he is the full shilling, just internet fame is enough to get some decent £££

I cant imagine online coaching is anything other than dudes paying to pretend to be friends with a 'name' or am I worng ? can superb coaching be obtained via email and a 10 minute skype consultation ?

all for that insta #tag i imagine

Why would do you think people in endurance sports are willing to pay so much more for coaching? (£250 per month for top level coaching from Oxygen addicts for example or at a more extreme level $10,000 for six months by Joe Friel!!!)

what sort of level will the typical user of online coaching be? i'd say typically new/intermediate.

for them:

'lift heavy weights and eat s**t loads of food so the scale is rising every week' is sufficient.
now i just need to pad that out into a 100 page e-book and flog it for £30 a pop.

wowzers, coach rob is doing well !!

I guess the triathlon scene is even more lucrative given the relative wealth of a good portion of the participants

mabie there is more scope for decent coaching with triathlon , then again the 250-a-monthers may get a cookie cutter themselves

if I were ever to receive online coaching, they couldn't send me a cookie cutter as I work s**tty hours ... rob will be earning his 250 !

I just don't think online only coaching is a good thing, its the internets afterall !

^^ i agree with mostly what Boar is saying. I think internet only coaching heavily lends itself towards a cookie cutter approach, even if the coach doesnt deliberately start off with that in mind.

What i do think is a great idea and becoming quite popular now everyone has broadband are the coaches like John Clark and Tom Hibbert, who do most of their work online, but hold regular seminars, or have their clients down for a face to face session on a semi regular basis.

regular email/message contact ... assessing form via videos..... skype meetings .... then I'm starting to think that 'this guy is my coach'

Online coaching works for one reason. You tend to stick to a program if you pay for it.

I hired Andy Bolton as a coach and I made the best gains I ever made...

My biggest mistake is lifting max weights too often. I know I struggle to get stronger doing that.

I hate lifting light and doing deloads. I believe I can give out plenty of advice and definitely know how to train. Problem is I just don't stick to a plan well.

I think coaching endurance sports, especially cycling seems to make more sense online, well at least to the point where you could convince someone with money to burn to go for it. More of the training metrics are objective and measurable and understandable remotely - time, hr and power allow a hell of a lot of analysis before you add athlete feedback. Trainingpeaks allows all sorts of analysis.

That at least gives the illusion that it's not cookie cutter.

£5.

It's true I have never seen you throw a bench and thus I take what you suggest with a pinch of salt.

I was never into the Guns'n'Geezers Films but there is a certain deftness of touch, a certain brio that makes Snatch one of my favourite films from that period full stop.
