Thing is, you have congratulate anyone willing to stick their hands up, especially on a big stage like this, and spot for fellow lifters.
However you also have a resonsibility to be honest with yoyrself, a couple of these lads simply weren't switched on enough. It's not just a case of younger, smaller guys out of their depth, they simply weren't switched on to the situation.
The fed takes ultimate responsibilty though for me.
Accidents happen sure, we all accept that, but some of them scenes should not have happened.

I think the argument that they won't have been getting paid is pretty pointless.

If you spot at a competition it is never going to be financial gain, it is purely to keep the lifters safe and the comp running well. That didn't happen.

I think the blame lies solely at the door of the organisers though, it was clear that some of those kids hadn't done the job before. In at the deep end.

Fault of spotters (2nd spotter on lifters left) and lifter trying to dump the bar. Maybe he did so as wasn't getting the support on the left as good hope for!

Across the comp that I saw there were only 2 spotting incidents and the other one involved not having enough spotters on the platform.

If anything I hope that the IPF makes doubly sure that event organisers have enough experienced spotters through a comp. For instance there is a Czech crew that goes around Europe and are pros!

With the cost of entry and the money the IPF get from sponsorship deals/approved clothing etc the least they could do is ensure there is some competent spotting going on. It's pretty fundamental to a competition.

You can't tell me that from the however many hundreds of entrants and their supporters there weren't 3 guys who would have been able to competently spot 400kg+

I'm not 100% sure (maybe Mr Flett can fill us in on his return) but I think that is what ended up happening with some of the spotters.

Was Branton merely trying to dump the squat or was he (or at least did he think he was) actually injured?

Cheers. It was solid. Bench and deadlift a bit of their best but knew that going in.

Don't think the lifter was injured. But if he felt one side going to s**t maybe he panicked a bit? Hard to be too critical of him tbh

Yeah, in the moment and as jacked up as he was he probably just thought "f**k this, I'm off".

Yep!

Actually seen another vids from the comp of some more inadequate spotting from a bunch of kids. So maybe there was a bigger problem in some flights than I thought?

I was watching some of the Sub-Juniors lift and the Spotters looked smaller than they were...and I'm talking about the lower weight classes here, as Joe Pena etc would make quite a few people look small.

I had seen quite a few vids, not an isolated incident hence my comments. I would have been quite cross if southern power lifting legend kenders was injured as a result of poor spotting.

Lol well they were fine when I missed my last bench and didn't give them a chance on the squats Happy
