SteBennett | How strong is strong? | 03-12-2015 @ 18:11
Average hamstring at best Member 4663, 588 posts | I saw something on Facebook a bit back that gave numbers as to how much you have to be able to lift to be considered strong. Just wondering on all your opinions on what you personally consider strong? I've got to admit, I generally only consider people stronger than me as strong

Doesn't like tall people very much. Member 5708, 391 posts SQ 260, BP 195, DL 275730.0 kgs @ 137.5kgs UnEq | An old chap I used to train with once told me "it takes a man to bench 300lbs, squat 400lbs and pull 500lbs" Although I wouldn't call that really strong to be honest, but it might just be where strong begins.

Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | Post Edited: 03.12.2015 @ 18:36 PM by Fazc Yeah I think if you could walk into most gyms and Squat 4 plates Bench 3 plates Pull 5 plates You'd be considered strong. By the standards of the average person you'd be a monster. For me personally I'd consider it more like one plate more per side on each lift. I'd still say most people on this forum are strong just because compared to the average fella on the street you definitely would be.

AKA the great reset Member 4056, 5206 posts | I agree with Fazc. In an average gym, 3/4/5 plates makes you very strong. In a strength sport would definitely be another plate aside.

‘downsizing’ Member 5704, 3226 posts SQ 280, BP 210, DL 320810.0 kgs @ 96.3kgs UnEq | Agree with fazc - 4-3-5 SBD is going to be strong in most gyms . most people don't train so in general pop even that would be beyond belief for them - Ive seen a few average slim noob males struggling with 40-50kg on bench

AKA the great reset Member 4056, 5206 posts | There was a farmer lives near me. Never actually touched a barbell until he went inside. Well he threw up 230 on the dead lift. And then very nearly got 250. I know I have seen Terry on here saying he could deadlift 260 at the beginning. That's f**king crazy.

I knew an old guy called boaby who lifted me up like a wee baba in the pub. Pushed me overhead like a 4 year old it was amazing

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22049 posts | People immediately start going on about squat, bench, dead. Strict press and zercher is what it's all about! 90/170 is the lower end of "strong".

If you start with the "real world strength" angle then you very quickly run into Functional/Crossfit strength and then Sugden might implode.

Member 5929, 29 posts | Agree with previous posts with it determined by numbers of plates on the bar rather than kilos or lbs . The 3,4,5 bench, squat, deadlift gave me something tangible to aim towards along with a 2 plate per side overhead press

Average hamstring at best Member 4663, 588 posts | Seems pretty good points. So how about strong within competition standards? I don't mean the elite like terry and Ed etc, just your average strongman and power lifters. I always consider 300kg deadlift as a bench mark for what I find really impressive. Not so sure with squat because it seems to vary so much. Bench press 200kg?
AdamT | ... | 03-12-2015 @ 21:37
AKA the great reset Member 4056, 5206 posts | Depends on weight class. I imagine strong would be 600 for 83 class. Perhaps add 50kg to every weight class. They are not elite, but good goals for anyone to aim for. Obviously not everyone will get it.
