Hy everyone in a drugfree lifter and I will be doing a powerlifting meet in febuary where I hope to hit a 600kg total. I walk around at a fairly lean 96kg but I was thinking about dieting down to 90 and competing in the bdfpa. It wont be for some time as me and the wife are expecting another baby soon but just something I would like to do one day. Does anyone know the kind of total I would need to be reasonably competitive in the 90kg category of that federation?? I'm guessing ill need to be ALOT stronger lol....thanks for any help x

Just go on their site and look at results for British and worlds
Circa 700@90 would win pretty much everything.

wouldn't worry about what anyone else is lifting just increase your own total.

just remember if your lean and wanting to drop weight this might impact your total as well

Boar the BDFPA are doing well - membership numbers are growing each year. Three British finals (equipped, dull power unequipped and single lift unequipped). typically plenty of divisionals despite people wanting more.

Eastern counties qualifier in a few weeks which has one hundred lifters signed up for two day event.

Held world single lifts in England this year, British single lift event this year had 340 entries due to this.

next year Wales has World single lifts so expect British to be big again. England has European full power as well I think

Only this afternoon in the gym I was telling a bench only lad in the gym about the BDFPA as he only wants to lift in local comps (having done a GBPF comp). Its a good fed and gives you flexibility particularly if you want to do single-lifts, push pull or even full meets (un-equipped/equipped).

Thanks for the help lads, after looking at this years results and the fact its 2 hour weigh ins I may have to move up to the 100kg division. Thanks again 😊

I have just this weekend passed up the opportunity to compete in BDFPA at the PSUK meet.

I just found the rule book a bit too fussy in comparison to say GPC. Plus I have never squatted with nothing at all on my knees, would want at least sleeves, and my belt was the wrong width and had too much 'overlap' as it's a lever and I have it on the smallest position (should have got a size smaller)

I did a bit with the bdfpa earlier in the year and this ruined me. I can't get my head around not having anything on my knees. It was enough to make me look at changing Feds.

lift equipped and use 20cm knee sleeves or 2m wraps?

quite a few lift in equipped without suits - especially all the old broken f**kers Wink

I think GB/IPF allowing neoprene sleeves in "classic" competitions has been a significant factor in the growth in unequipped lifting.

It makes sense, I mean what do neoprene sleeves add weight wise? In my experience maybe the difference of a mere 5kg or so, I'd much rather have lovely toasty supple knees than cold, ready to snap knees Happy

SBD knee sleeves were one of the best investments I ever made lifting wise.

hahaha - would have to say possibly intentional - can't stand full power as hate Benching - find it difficult to accept something as exercise that you have to lay down to do
