Just wondering what opinions are out there of a 6-week Russian peaking cycle for the Deadlift ?

Deadlifting twice a week, doesn't ordinarily appeal to be fair, but thinking of giving this a go as I want a big pull in 7 weeks but it's not the end of the world if this program doesn't work !!

My structure building up to all previous comps has been lacking and a bit more discipline might not do me any harm.

Assume this is the 6 week thing that builds
up to 6x6 at 80%. Be careful - have done a couple of successful runs in past on squat and bench but I ended up with a pec injury couple months ago and couldn't bench full range at all for 3 weeks. should see good increase in strength from all the practice with heavy weights if you can manage the fatigue.

Thanks, yes the 6 week cycle.
The numbers look more than sensible and do-able, just not sure how the body will react to deadlifting twice a week for first time EVER !! Will be adjusting my squat accordingly to accomodate.
Might even switch to front squat and do on same day as the lighter deadlift session for the duration of this thing.

Deadlifting for 6x6 is horrible (missed quite a few reps that week), got me a 5kg PB though.

I have used for all 3 powerlifts to good effect. Assuming your are reffering to the Russian squat routine. 3 weeks volume, 3 weeks intensity.

Use it but only deadlift one day a week and if the last sets are 6x6 or 3x3 just do 1 set as you will seriously batter your cns and will not get best recovery

This was my main concern.
The only thing that is keeping me interested is because, 1, I have based the reps on a max of 290kg, which is a snatch lower than where I probably am right now and have rounded a lot of the weight down, and 2, I will not be squatting for the duration of this routine apart from some light front squats on the lighter day as some assistance. I'm hoping the dropping of the squats will see me good on the CNS front.
Be interested to hear your opinion.

What you will have to do is try it keep a record of your progress it takes a few time to run a routine but you will see patterns if you see some good progress your doing something right if your not progressing then it will need changing
Remember small slow process is good progress don't get disheartened and make sure you get plenty of recovery

Sacked it off after only 3 sessions.
My back was in tatters after only the first heavy'ish set.
My ability to recover in 3 days from Deadlifting, in order to do it again is not there.
I don't believe this Russian stuff is s**t, just s**t for me at this time !!
I may well have come good on it if I'd persevered, but the way my back felt yesterday evening and today...I ain't risking it !!

do you fail from the floor or at lockout typically with deadlifts?

personally in my opinion (for what its worth compared to some of the better lifters already posted) is that those who fail at lockout tend to have a technique which is more damaging and draining when pulling.

if I was to run it for deads I would choose a max with perfect technique more akin to those who fail off the floor

Not sure which 9 week Russian peaking cycle your doing but you should only deadlift once a week
