As a shorter lighter lifter I get..

you can only lift that because your levers are so short
If I were your height id be lifting that also

How much do you squat....*answers* I can do that, but do you go all the way down?
Oh your a powerlifter? I guess there are a few skinny powerlifters
how come your squat and bench are so much higher than your bench?

Not non lifters, but uneducated assholes in the gym.

I'm an average guy at 6'0, not some Chinese lifter ffs

*guy sees me squatting 300, proceeds to tell his mates that he could squat that easily for reps before his 'injury'
Same guy sees me doing 190 pause squats another time, says the exact same thing to his mates. Basically, not matter what i lift, he used to do that same weight but much easier.

Guy whos max deadlift is 160 sees me doing a power clean with 170. 'it's mostly technique isn't it' I proceed to tell him i can deadlift 300. 'but i'm much bigger than you'

'you're only strong because you're fast' What?!

One thing is doing my head is when I mention to my friends and family that I enjoy weighing and am interested in competing in powerlifting, strongman comps.

And they reply" ohh right why? Do you get money for it?"

I reply" no its just a bit of fun."

Then they reply" well if theres no money involved, what's the point of competing?"

And I also get a lot of are you on roids from people in the pub etc
Only because im only 5'7" and just under 100kg.

No way can you deadlift that.
Your bench isn't very good (proceeds to do half rep with less weight, then squat 120 half depth...)
I don't think people should take any un natural substances like protein...
What do you do on dumbbell curls.

Hate it when other gym goers feel the need to advise me and give me tips on deadlifting..

Oh you will get an extra 20kgs onthe bar if you avoid using your back/hips blah blah..

Normally do one when I ask them to show me how.

I just can't seem to get any bigger (whilst eating 1500 calories of clean food a day)

I'm doing lower reps to try and get stronger (proceeds to do 4 sets of 8)
I'm doing higher reps to try and get leaner (proceeds to do 4 sets of 8)
Yeah I'm doing 5x5
How often do you train shins (said to me whilst i'm doing calf raises)
blah blah blah


This about covers it all!

I'm always getting (generally off people I don't know and they're the generation above me) that they know someone who's bigger than me etc...

Well, if they're 140kg plus, and in their late 40's/early 50's and shifting the weight I do, then bloody good to 'em!
