Junior UK's Strongest Man 2015

Got to the hotel on Sunday, loads of food and went down to the venue Monday, did some camera links. It's getting filmed for youtube not TV unfortunately and then got warmed up.

Event 1: 125kg Farmers walk for distance
20m course, cylinder farmers so made it abit trickier. Went out first so had to set a marker, wanted 100m. First length was fine and turn was ok but the farmers really started bouncing off my legs making the second turn tricky and slowing me down on the 3rd length. fell just short of the 3rd length so got 56m, Tom Stoltman then went out and got 57m so 2nd place for me.

Event 2: Press medley 120 giant log, 60kg dumbbell left and right hand, 147 axle
Obviously really light so I was thinking I needed a fast time, couple of lads got close on the axle but didnt make it so I went out, one motioned the log, chucked the dumbbells up ok then went for the axle. It was raining fast so it was slippy but gave it a good squeeze and popped it up to shoulders then push pressed nice and easy to finish. Tom went out next and fell over cleaning the axle, it messed him up and didnt manage to press it. First place.

Event 3: car deadlift hold with straps
All the lads got around 50-63 seconds so 63 was the lead, Tom went out and picked the car up and put it straight back down, something was up but not sure what. I went out, picked up the car and it felt nice and light. Ronald Young was up with me and I think he wanted some kind of angry looking stare down lol but I just looked away and imagined I was on a beach somewhere. Ron dropped after about 50 seconds and I just held on until the ref said 70 seconds then put it down. First place

Event 4: MAS wrestling
My mortal enemy lol, first up against Ron and got him 2-0 so went against Tom Webb next and got him 2-0 as well. Tom was next in the final and I gave it a big pull but he pulled me over relatively easily. Need to be abit heavier for this really. 2nd place.

Event 5: Bavarian deadlift for max
Strange one, have to lift a weight 1m starting with 200kg, afew lads were struggling and I was one. I failed the opening lift didnt have a clue what technique to use. Tom S got 250kg and won with that, not sure on place so near the bottom.

Event 6: Atlas stones for reps, 145kg
I was 3 points ahead of Tom at this point so plan was not to rush trying to keep up with Tom but just secure second then see if I have time for any more. Ashton Reid was leading with 6 reps so 7 to win overall. Tom set off quick but I stayed pretty cloe for the first few, after 5 I really took my time to make sure I got to 7, 7th rep went over pretty easy then popped an 8th over then time was up. Tom got 11 but I got 2nd place so nothing he could do at that point.

Overall: 1st place, absolutely buzzing, really glad that I felt strong as training the last few weeks has been bad, luckily my back felt fine which I think was holding me back. Gonna mess around for rest of week then get on a proper off season programme until next year, unless anything big pops up or I get an invite to something I wont be competing properly till Northerns in May but that is 9 months away so I might do a couple of warm up comps to keep my head on.
