Agree going for psyched up maxes in gym all the time is not sensible - comp should be where your biggest lifts are.

Calf still problematic
few sets up to 200

2x1x200 paused stopped calf sore

Leg press
2x15 light

Rows

Straps

Again I enter a comp with another niggling squat related injury - think I might do push/pull next time lol...

Was aware of calf strain all time so 270 double turned into 2 slow descent short paused efforts 1-2" above parallel. Still good to get a bit of heavy weight on back. Walkout is worst for calf so glad there's a monolift. Warmup pain will dictate what weigh I open with.

last heavy session tonight (bench) then 8 days of taper and I really do need this recovery now.
next starts the fun of getting from 106.5kg to 100kg. hoping a bit of water loading, sodium reduction and
carb restriction will get me down to about 102/103 night before weigh in then just a evening of hot baths/showers
to remove the final 2/3kg.

genesis 2/6

bench press paused comp grip

bar x loads
60 x loads, 80 x 2 x 2, 100 x 2, 120 x 2, 140 x 2, 160 x 2, 180 x 3

slingshot shoulder width grip 'speed' reps all easy
140 x 3, 160 x 3, 170 x 3 - stopped here as just felt a little twinge in elbow

triceps pushdowns
few light sets

shoulder press
1 light set of 25 reps or so

last heavy session - wanted a 'training max' today (e.g. a hard effort without psychological stress).
heavy triple was good got very tight and was good for another rep i think had my calf not cramped.
3-4kg weight gain over last time has helped enormously on bench and I am feeling pretty confident
200kg is there on the day with psyching up, spotters and handoff.

making weight started today - protocol is:

thurs: maintenance cals, carbs max 100g, fats and protein to make up rest fluids as normal
fri: same macros + 5 litre water
sat: same macros + 8 litre water
sun: same macros + 10 litre water
mon: same macros + 1 litre water, cut fluids 6pm (arrive hotel eastbourne as well) + dandelion root herbal diuretic
mon eve: start DIY sauna in hotel shower/bathroom - 25 mins in 5 mins out
stop when reached 101kg - sleep
tue 8am - weigh in early (hopefully sub 100kg by now)

post weigh in

6 litres consisting of gatorade 1/2 + water 1/2
food anything nice calorie+carb dense and salty plenty bananas, also adding some taurine in this time + lo salt for potassium
continue fluids + 20g creatine throughout day (via USN muscle fuel anabolic)

in the evening my GF arrives so we are off out for a slap up meal and bingo apparently Grin

caffeine, complex carbs, bananas, taurine

Comp weighed in 98.25 -
Again I cut more than needed

Squat
220 - easy
240 - easy but 1 red
255 - fail made a right mess of it

Bench
170 - easy
185 - easy new record
190 - a bit harder new record

Deadlift
260 - easy but strained hamstring and ripped thumb open stopped there

Total
690

Very hot and humid in venue and cramp was a nightmare from the start. Squats were never going to be good from calf injury hampering training. Bench good considering amount of cramp I had by then. On deadlift had to curtail warmups because I could see my thumb was about to rip open which no doubt led to straining hamstring and not taking any more lifts on.

It's a high bench - like the cec powerlifts one at genesis Wembley if you've ever trained there. I can't get legs on the floor without tiptoeing cos I have no arch whatsoever

I don't mind cutting tbh - don't think it weakens me as I'm not losing more than 2-3kg from carb deplete and 2-3kg from sauna - pretty easy to restore on 24 hour
weigh in. Big problem I found today was tons of cramping because it was like a sauna in that venue.
