I know what you mean with the squats. I had to completely rethink my squats when I videoed them for the first time I couldn't believe they looked so rubbish; confirmed by the good folks here! Taking weight off the bar so I could start trying to nail form was not nice, but necessary I reckon. I'm still not back to where I used to be weight wise. I think if you're in this for the long run then now is the time to nail any problems you think you might have.

I got lots of good advice from my journal but I found loads more on Hayden's journal cos he'd been through it too only a few month's before.

didnt eat enough food today and ran out of steam but resonably pleased because my shoulders managed to hold up to a heavy session!

bench press 90kx3 100k x1 102.5 x1 105 x1 fail 100 x1

dumbell curl 20kj 10/10 had enough and binned the rest of the session in favour of sirloin steak and chips!

friday 29/06/07
managed to finally get to the farm in Northampton today to train with some other powerlifters had a mixed session with some real high points and one real low point.
was planning to just deadlift but when i arrived everyone was benching as well so in the spirit of joining in I decided to bench as well despite my dodgy shoulder twinging a bit ,didnt bench very well failed 100k and felt my shoulder starting to complain so stopped after that and went on to deadlift and some max attempts after which my shoulder was complaining a bit more ,by the time I got home its was really painful
and this morning its really sore with little mobility and when I look in the mirror I look like quasimodo with one shoulder about 1" higher than the other .

on a brighter note I did managed two new deadlift pb's and broke the 200k barrier which
sounds Oh so mutch better than 185k although after having watched the video's the technique is absolutely shocking!

visiting the phyio next week and no deadlifting or benching ,would squatting monday wednesday and friday be too mutch I was thinking max effort squat monday ,speed squats wednesday and front squats friday?

also may have to rethink the comp on the 21st and perhaps just do a token bench anyway early days yet I may wake up tomorrow and the shoulder may be better!!!!

That 205 was easy mate, definitely more there. Your form wasn't that bad either - you didn't round your back; just try to focus on keeping a big chest and pushing through your heels next time - you seemed a bit eager to let your lower back take over.

nice vids mate, kevin jane is strong alright, lifted in one of the comps I did, do you have any plans to compete.

also my friend,I did be more patience with the starting position on those deads, because it is the start position where most deadlifts are won or lost!!!.....platform deads and especially sumos have really helped me keep my hips down longer on the start of the pull.

thanks for the advice I,m planning to compete for the first time on the 21 July at the east mids masters novice and juniors, I agree totally about the deadlifts need to keep
my arse down lots of platforms and front squats planned between now and comp shoulder permitting!

had a day off work today so trained at the wife's gymn with her ,bit of a disapointment as the only place to squat was a smith machine but made the best of it!



squats 100x5 110x5 120x3 140x1 100x5

dumbell curls 20kx10 22.5kx10 preacher curls 25k x10

leg press 90x10 100x10

sit ups 10k 10/10/10

the wife reckoned that all the squats were below paralell btu she might just have been trying to keep me happy!

squats today ,was going up to a double on my conservative opener for the competition as per the advice i was given but found I could only do 1 , squat confidence is at an all time low ,however last week I worked about 60 hours ate virtually nothing and didnt get enough sleep so i should'nt be suprised that I am as weak as piss this week!

Squat bar x10 60k x3 80k x2 100kx2 105kx1 100kx1 100kx1 110kx1 110kx1

lots of sets trying to make sure I hit depth,i think I'm a bit borderline at the mo my knees seem to come forward too much making it very hard to hit depth might I be staring in the face of 3 reds on 3 squats? I dont think its a weight issue as I cant get any lower with just the bar!


Dumbell curls for T bench 20k 10/10/10

weighted sit ups 10k /12 15k/10 20k 10

decided to start my own breakaway federation with 3 lifts comprising of half squats,barbellcurls and tricep kickbacks any squats lower than 4 inches above paralell will be immediately disqualified ,it will be compulsary to take your top off whilst doing the barbell curl and must be finished with a double bicep pose and the tricep kickbacks must be performed in front of a mirror whilst listening to wankey trance music!

ed dont worry about it go and do your best mate dont think anyone will think your inferior to the best lifter there takes guts ed and you have it mate.
