laying in cold water to entice the nervous and vascular system to restricting blood flow and shunting it centrally to protect the internal organs with warmth. This is vasoconstriction.
Once returning to a agreeable temperature vasodilation occurs and a fresh rich bloody supply returns to the cells, replenishing them.

That's my understanding of the point of cold treatment in view of greater recovery.

However, I also believe that it is stressful for the body and mind to go through such temperature changes. Perhaps it's better to eat well and keep your body in a warm state it is content at operating in.

I am still sceptical if it really is worth having cold treatment as the benefits could be minor. What are your opinions?

I've never 'got' the concept of treating an area with 'fresh' blood because it's constantly circulating.

I'm too lazy for such methods anyway.

Klokov said he just uses sauna and massage for recovery. The big russian lady, Tatyana karishna? She apparently uses sauna alot too. The great Russian fighter Fedor Emilianenko uses sauna.

Alot of uk people in the uk use ice baths, eastern Euros use heat. I know which one I'd rather sit in.

the cold apparently reduces inflammation but that could be bro science.

I sometimes do it and I feel that it does actually reduce DOMS

Yes, I agree. Heat is a source the body craves and flourishes in and cold is one it shirks away from. After all, The sun as a source of heat is the funding of our existence. I will read the opinion of others yet I am anticipating an extra hot bath after my training session.

My limited understanding is that the cold prevents too great a number of inflammation markers reaching the affected area due to vasoconstriction. Long-term this will prevent excessive swelling of an injured tissue.

I've used cold baths to and feel they help. Whether that's placebo or not I don't know. I think there is some debate to there effectiveness tho. Kind of like foam rolling, all the rage and then you start reading stuff about it might not be as good as once thought.

I go for cold baths after a hard leg session where I know I'm going to be suffering from DOM's and it does work for me at least. Reduces inflammation and does prevent the DOM's being as bad. Occasionally go for another cold bath the following days.

You should all be plunging your hands into boiling water. Sorry, did I say boiling, I meant boiled and then cooled water. This aids recover, builds mental fortitude and promotes excessive imagination.

People are tending to move away from ice baths now and moving towards cold water immersion at temps of 10-14degrees. Lots of studies to be found on CWI and it effect on Heart rate variability with a shift towards parasympathetic activity.

Changes have been observed using various software packages available and athletes report better sleep and feel more "recovered" subjectively.

Is it worth it for the usual weightlifter? Probably not. Best used for high level professional athletes.

Google scholar cold water immersion and heart rate variability will throw up more than enough further reading for those interested.

The new thing for many athletes here is cyro chamber at -100c for a few mins.
The sauna must be an infrared sauna too.

Also you must have your supergreens and goji berries 3x a day.
