Bit of a random thread really. Just interested to see whos serving and how you manage your training. I'm in the infantry so the excerises and PT really makes training hard at times!

Not sure how many are members on this site, but there are plenty of Forces lifters and depending what sport you are interested in, there are also dedicated clubs and comps for Forces personnel in powerlifting and strongman.

Im a serving squaddie and the secretary for Forces and REME strongman, drop me a PM with your DII address and I will email you with some more info

Im guards(without been too specific) ross, were you infantry?

Yeah I guess in a Corp, the PT is slightly different and maybe makes training easier? (I may be totally wrong)

Where are you based mate? You are eligible to compete in our Forces Strongman comps as a member of the Reserves

Yep, definitely the case first 5 years or so for most blokes. Instant nutters, just add alcohol!

With regards the corps physical being better for training, it all depends on your pti's/ Q muscles. Know one mate who does green pt three times a week, always speed marching and tabbing. Where I am it's mixed service, the contrast in phys levels is so bad they can't do runs etc as the group strings out too much, even on steady state 4 milers etc so it's all cross fit circuits. Air squats, burpee's and pressups for the win!

Yep, I'm probably naturally better at endurance cardio and bodyweight stuff than strength, but I want to be strong not a whippet! I did a corps half marathon after a month of training and did 1hr 32mins, but it's boring and you look anorexic if you get into that.

Ps. A lot of the bigger blokes struggle with runs but breeze tabbing. Some of them can almost do the same speed with a Bergen they can do in trainers and shorts!
