I need surgeries, what has been offerred to me in both terms of diagnostics and treatment on NHS has been inadequate, and while I know there are decent orthos on these shores who seem to get athletes with seemingly career ending injuries functioning again, they are both in private practice and rare.

America seems to have the best orthos for young active people (UK mainly seems to be hip & knee replacement experts only) but their healthcare is even more expensive than UK.

So Im wondering where all these athletes from Eastern europe go? I had thought about Russia but google tells me their med system is full of corruption and overpriced. But how about Poland etc? Where do their weightlifters or other athletes go with mangled shoulders & vertebral discs?

Anyone got some info?

The NHS did pretty well for me Happy Saw a leading surgeon through the NHS (he also does a lot of private work). I think it depends a little on good fortune but also doing your research and playing the game.

Thanks yeah, thats kind of what I figured. Been playing this "game" a long time and hit dead ends regarding my shoulders, which not only have injuries which I caused but also developmental defects in the first place.

There is a surgery available in the USA called ream and run, which successfully gives even elderly folk (actually specifically elderly folk) more shoulder stability & safe impingement free ROM than I have ever had in my life. I dont even know if such an extreme measure as this (partial shoulder replacement) is necessary for me, but the fact is I have defects & injuries which even "good" docs have failed to diagnose, they goosed up even interepting MRI's, claiming contradictory and vague stuff each time.

I just went through a 3 year "game" to get my hip labrum tear diagnosed, something I knew from day 1 but every doc disagreed with. In the same way with my shoulders, I KNOW there is major stuff wrong, compounded issues. But the docs I see dont seem to even be able to understand basic body movements, let alone finding the cause or restrictions & problems. It is very frustrating.

I would love to just see a doc, tell them I want to be able to pitch a ball, swim, barbell snatch & bench press.. say that I cannot. And have THEM figure out why not, and fix it!

This frustration with my own injuries makes me wish I just went to med school myself!

Why do so many people on here have/need surgery? What are people doing wrong?

Good luck with it all.

With me I was defective in the first place. Doing challenging stuff when your shoulders f**k up throwing a ball or even putting on a shirt, now that can result in significant injury.

Any other questions by pm only plz.

I know, right? Working their hours plus s**t loads of over time, just to try and keep people alive and rid them of disease. They've only helped several members of my family fight through CVD and cancer a s**t load of time. Bunch. Of. c**ts.

You should just do your own surgery by the sounds of it.

Know more than all these stupid docs

Absolutely!

He knew about his labrum tear for 3-years before these dicks figured it out. God, they can't even interpret an mri correctly. Useless bas***ds!!

Herman, you sound like you had Munchausens. See a mental health specialist, not a surgical specialist!

It's a fair point.

As a tax payer and contributor to the NHS I'm not overly bothered if someone can't snatch or throw a ball. Don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but it isn't exactly life threatening. The NHS was set up to help people get back to work and support themselves. Whilst not perfect it does this a lot better than most other places around the world.

Poor Doctors and their long hours/overtime.
Have you seen what they get payed?! I'd be working 16h a day on their rates!

Some eastern euro athletes i know go to Finland for surgery. Apparently there are some top surgeons there, but that's all i know.
I had a couple of problems that a few specialists couldn't figure out even with an MRI. I went to UCLH (nhs) and they have a sports department with some really knowledgeable guys. I chose to pay privately for some of the treatment to avoid waiting. It also has EIS (english institute of sport) on the front door so i think funded athletes can get treated there. Seen a couple of international athletes in the waiting room.

Can cost up to 350 for a 30 minute consultation though, and if you're up north, it's a bit of a trip. Top healthcare and cheap healthcare, not going to happen.
