Hi I'm 36 years old andin january after a couple of years of no physical activity I decided to prise my arse of the sofa and start lifting weights,I then found the pluk site and thought I might have a go at powerlifting.I mainly train at home with the ocasional trip to the farm apowerlifting club in northampton for some advice and technical tips.I am currently training for my first comp which is the east midlands novice masters and juniors comp on the 21
july where I will probably break all records for the lowest ever total.

As I am pretty much a beginner my technique for all three lifts is pretty
poor so any tips/help would be appreciated, I particularly struggle with squatting as i have great long gangly legs and I find making depth almost impossible, benching as I have great long gangly arms so lock out is along long long way away and the first bit of the deadlift as my legs as well as being long are also quite weak.

11/6/07 squat day

Squat 110x3 115x3 120x3 125x1 120x3

stand ups (pin 4 below normal and 10 second hold)140/150/160

good mornings 65 10/10/10

weighted situps 10k 10/10/10

13/6/07 bench day
cant bench or do any pressing actions at the moment due to my left shoulder being knackered

skull crushers 26/10 36/10 41/10 46/5

bent over row 87.5 8/8/8

strict barbell curl 46k 8/8/8

Here are some vids of my training for your entertainment ,watch in awe as I wobble strain go red in the face and generally look a bit of a tit

ED mate, don't put yourself down we have all got to start somewhere. keep your form tight, exercises basic(no need for to many fancy assistance exercises just yet) and get to that powerlifting club more often and your numbers will fly up.Happy

thanks for the kind words folks .

Niel, if we ignore the fact that you are a much better squatter than I am we are about the same level and age so a bit of healthy rivalry could be good!

Deadlifts 160x4 170x4 platform deadlifts 150x4 speed deadlifts 100 5/5
felt absolutely spent after the 170 x4 the last of which was an eyes popping head exploding twiddly lights in front of your eye's grinder, was going to do front squats as well but lacked the positive mental attitude to do it.
In hindsight the ham egg and chips I ate 45 mins before training was a mistake!

I think so too. I saw the 170 x 4 and wondered why your PB was 185. 200 would have to be the next 1RM attempt surely.
