Done it before tho so confident I will be ok just not done the smolov jr %'s

I am officially retiring from strongman, powerlifting may still be an option but after this re-hab I am seriously reconsidering my entire training and may make some drastic changes, I need a new outlook, heal up and re-ignite my motivational fire, injury after injury is racking me off and progress is slow...need a good think where I'm taking things.

Hopefully your back aint to serious mate. Have you got any ideas on what you want to do now, maybe a change of direction for a couple weeks might do you some good dropping the weight and hitting some stupid high reps aint a bad thing and wont aggrevate any niggling injuries

I'm considering going complete Chaos and Pain style - loads of variation and deciding on what I'm doing when I get in there or the other very different option is keeping my ox singles/doubles or triples on bench, squat, deads and press then doing pure bodybuilding after so really a bodybuilding program with a PL emphasis at the start. I dunno really mate, I'm a bit lost at the moment, like yourself just fed up keep getting injured, its genuinely difficult to even walk at the moment

I dunno really mate, I'm a bit lost at the moment, like yourself just fed up keep getting injured, its genuinely difficult to even walk at the moment it is a kick in the nuts and i know that im no were near as strong as i was but iv accepted this year is just for fun do some high reps, see what kind of shape i can get into, try add some quality muscle mass then next year switch my focus to a mixture of strength and fluff stuff. Just write this year off and set some easy goals not heavy 1RM goals though see how insane you can get with your training without going to heavy then start of next year purely switch your focus to powerlifting

Cheers mate, appreciate the support

I have it confirmed its not sciatica but I have tore muscle over the hip bone that attaches to the lower back, it was first done back in October but partially healed until a few weeks back when that scar tissue tear ripped again and again this morning. Not great news but better than sciatica, need 4-8 weeks to heal it so will be doing what I can - pressing, bench pressing, upper back work then maybe leg extensions and curls for legs? Need to be sensible and get it healed. Feel better for knowing already and I think I will be sticking with my powerlifting training once healed In some ways I'm pretty impressed with how I have PB'd so many exercises that involves these muscles whilst being torn!

At least it should be able to heal and not cause as many longer term flare ups! Glad to hear you are going with powerlifting - I'm sure I'll meet you on the platform sometime soon I'd be ultra careful with the back for the first 4 weeks, but as you say you can still bench, chest supports rows, pull downs, chins, and some leg isolation work. Smolov Jr for bench has a huge reputation in our club for being awesome, I've not run it myself, but everyone seems to get about 5-10kgs out of it!
