Bench and biceps and out. He also told me that in terms of strength most were above average but not anything special. This is my impression. I've seen several top union and league players do strength sessions and I've never been too impressed. Benching 140-160 with good form is very rare and most do the generic load the bar to 180 and rep out on half squats. There's also some very poor power cleaning that tends to go on with weights that are far too heavy. Will Genia will be the exception rather than the rule.

some nice relaxing jazz. Member 77, 12599 posts SQ 265, BP 165, DL 280710.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | It could happen. If it's anything like the claims of NFL players it may boil down to a bounced rep with 2 mates spotting.

Sugdens crazy old person. Member 4936, 7288 posts SQ 270, BP 155, DL 270695.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | Angles, spotters, gear, bouncing. I think bench press is the most popular lift here since I was I started lifting weights in 1977. Curls is another popular weight bearing exercise.

He is a pure bodybuilder with no interest in strength at all. I have no doubt a rugby player that focuses on power and speed as part of his training could do the same, if not a little more. very similar numbers to an 85kg bodybuilder in my gym. 140 9 or 10 and 175 pause rep. Definitely believable

Member 4923, 1795 posts | Most bodybuilders are getting "help" though. Genia must be natural given his sport, which makes it even more impressive (if true).

As a big rugby fan, I suspect we should be under no illusions about this. It's plausible. There are a certain number of freaks. There were stories about Mat Tait being one of the strongest at Newcastle, and he was about 85-90kg in those days. Similarly, Tom Youngs was reputedly one of the strongest at Leicester before he was moved from centre to hooker and had a neckectomy.

How do you know he is not big? :P 90 lean could be massive depending on height.

I reckon if you put most guys that weight in a thick jumper you wouldn't be able to tell they even trained. Maybe im wrong! In bb terms is 90kg bw not a poor return for a 180 bench?
