Elite North 90k qualifier rules:
1: Squat for reps within 60 seconds
Each competitor will position himself under the bar. The competitor will wait in the upright (standing) position till the chief referee’s signal to squat. Than the competitor must bend the knees and lower the body until the middle of the legs at the hip joint are lower or level with the top of the knees. Than the competitor must recover to upright position with knees locked, than the referee will signal a good lift by counting the lift. Failure to do this and the lift will not be counted. Competitors may not re-rack the bar, if there do so it is the end of competitors attempt. The competitor who does the must reps within the 60 seconds time period will win
Time limit: 60 seconds
Weight of log: 180/200kgs

2: Log from floor within 60 seconds
The athlete will start grasping the handles within the log on the floor. Upon the referee’s command, the athlete will begin lifting the log. The athlete will press the log above his head until the elbows are locked. The log must be held in position until the referee acknowledges the lift. The log will then be lowered to the floor, than repeated as many times as possible in the given time. The log must be stationary before the commencement of the next lift.
The weight must be lifted cleanly, splitting as per Olympic jerk style will be permitted. Push-press technique is also permissible
Time limit: 60 seconds
Weight of log: 95kgs

3: Yoke (20 mts with drop + turn)
On a given signal, the athlete will stand up with the 270kg yoke and carry the yoke down the course (12m) once across the line the athlete may drop yoke and turn around to complete the 24mts.. The yoke must be carried all the way over the finish line to complete the course. The fastest time or longest distance will decide the winner of this event.
Time limit: none
Starts weight: 270 kilos
Time limit: 75 seconds
Weight: 270kg

4: Van lift hold
Using the handles on the frame, which is extending from the end of a car will be grasped deadlift style. The athlete will commence lifting on referee’s signal. Competitors must stand erect with legs straight and back extended in an upright position with shoulders locked back. Athletes must maintain a grip on the handles far as long as he can in this position. Longest time wins.The use of lifting straps & adhesive substance on the hands is not permitted. NO POWER SUITS ALLOWED
Time limit: none
Start Weight: 225kg est

5: Tire flip 350kg
Each competitor must flip the tyre 8 times, (5 flips one way 5 flips back) the time will stop when the competitor completes the last flip the whole of the tyre must be flat on the floor when the time will stop. The fastest time wins. If course not competed, the number of flips a competitor completes will be recored. (In the event of two competitors of the same number of flips the points will be shaved.).
Time limit: 90 seconds

the past two times a 200kg squat has been in esm (once for reps, once for max) 4/15 and 5/15 athletes of the field have failed to do a rep so I think thats a fair comment.

squat is one of those events that you will always get a very large range of abilities in a competition. even a national final. in 2011 macca got 14 reps with 200 whilst 1/3 of the rest of the athletes failed it completely.

and actually looking back at bit further, in 2010 4/12 failed a 190 squat.

Personally I dont think you deserve to be in a national final and/or qualifier at u90 if you can squat 200KG with wraps/sleeves for just one rep!
