Member 4618, 93 posts SQ 205, BP 147.5, DL 265617.5 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | I was doing a string of dead end jobs, some to note: McDonalds, litter picking for the council, nothing that could be considered a career or professional. I got bored of this and had no idea of what direction to go in, so I saved up a few K over the course of a year and left the UK to travel and to do a bit of soul searching. While travelling I started trying to make money online through affiliate marketing. I found it didn't make much money but I did notice that I was getting quite good at developing websites and I enjoyed it. After some hard thinking about my future and looking at career prospects for web developers I figured that's what I wanna do. So I spent around 6 months spending 4-5 hours a day learning the trade and building up a portfolio. Thankfully a new web agency took a punt on me and gave me a chance, now I actually feel like I have a career. I was 28 when I got this job. Long story short - you're never too old to learn a new trade, if you want it badly enough you will make it happen - enthusiasm and determination go farther than qualifications.

I did bricklaying at night school when I was 30, had 7 good years as a bricklayer, enjoyed it very much. Now finninshing off a BSC in psychology and working in the field of behavioural psychology. But I am Mr Ben and who knows what I will be doing in 5 years time. In short, never to late. Do whatever you want to do.

Member 2252, 256 posts SQ 210, BP 140, DL 250600.0 kgs @ 95kgs UnEq | I wish you all the look fella. I´m not in a similar position as I have a decent job, I´m just bored out mu f**king tree and feel like I´m wasting my life. To be fair, I´m currently considering jacking it all in and going to do a uni course in Spain before moving to South America. Might be a terrible idea and ruin me, might be great and make my life a hell of a lot more interesting. Only one way to find out I guess - its just making myself take the plunge thats the challenge. I guess I´d say if you can afford to work a part-time job and study or retrain that would be your best bet. Think of something you could see yourself doing for a decent period of time and work out what you´d need to get there.

Member 4618, 93 posts SQ 205, BP 147.5, DL 265617.5 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | Seconded, While I was on the road I met quite a lot of people who had jacked it in to move abroad or travel for an extended period, not a single one of those regretted their decision. It's a different story if you have responsibilities i.e. kids, if not go for it. Worst case is it doesn't work out you head back home with some life changing experiences!

Conan likes to listen to music Member 1155, 3461 posts SQ 150, BP 110, DL 210470.0 kgs @ 88.8kgs UnEq | I'm presently looking at options that will keep me at home more/reduce time I might spend away. The up coming arrival of twin boys is something of a driving factor behind this. I already own a large vehicle transporter trailer with a 2700kg payload and may look to this and some other transport/recovery type activity and the purchase of a 7.5t recovery truck. Any thoughts and ideas on this are of course welcome

Anyone know what kind of routes and prospects are available for a job/training to be a blacksmith/welder/fabricator?
