Had a stinking cold for the last two days and no intention of training tonight, but out new lifter from Monday showed up and I didn't want to let him down so went out to do a bit of coaching and maybe a few lifts.

Bar for 10 - bar freezing, no chance of holding it for 20!!
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 6
100 for 4
120 for 2
140 for 3

The plan was a few 3s with 140, but Donnie tweaked a muscle and we decided it wasn't worth pushing it I didn't take any encouraging to join him in calling it a day. Still did more than I'd planned...

Monday, I'll be ready...

The cold has morphed into a sore throat. Still feeling lousy, went to the spa but decided to do a wee bit in the gym first.

Shoulder Press - 3 sets of 10 with 25, then 8s with 35, 45, 55, 65 (bottom peg)
Dips - 3 sets of 10
Pressdowns - 10s with 15, 20, 25, 30, 30, 30
French Curls - 10s with 15, 20, 25, 25, 25.

Embarrassingly weak on triceps, 5 more training weeks to put that right. Pleasantly surprised to bottom peg the shoulder press while feeling weak as a kitten though.

Followed by a luxurious 10 minutes in the jacuzzi, and then yoyoed between the steam and sauna till closing time. Had the place to myself tonight - they must've known I was coming.

Bored, 'stay indoors' weather, not well enough to do 'proper exercises', so 'Death By Dumbell Curls' it is...
Weights per hand

12.5 for 10
15 for 10
17.5 for 10
20 for 10
22.5 for 10 (that's new territory for me)
20 for 12
17.5 for 15
15 for 20
12.5 for 30 - ouch!

Different, fun...

Okay, stop coming in the jacuzzi and knock one out in the public changing rooms like a normal person.

You're a bad man - the jacuzzi has a filtration system, the changing room floor has kids walking on it... Happy

Monday Bench

For the next six weeks, or more, I'll be sacrificing raw bench strength and focusing on lock out strength in the lead up to the British Bench on 18 January. Me, Scott and Donnie tonight. Still struggling with the late stages of my cold, but in spite of that hit a PB. Very happy chappie at that.

Not so cold tonight, warmed up with

Bar for 20
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 6
100 for 4.

Then thick blue band (adds 45ish at top) on for all sets from here on in

60 for 5
80 for 4
100 for 3
110 for 2
120 for 1
130 for 1 - PB!!!!!
120 for 2 - hard
110 for 3 - harder
100 for 4 - easy
90 for 8 - first 6 easy, then two fights.

And that was that for the garage. Fed the dogs and headed off to the sports centre...

Shoulder Press - sets of 10 with 25 x 3; sets of 8 with 35, 45, 55, 65 (bottom peg)
Dips - 3 sets of 10
Triceps Pressdowns - 3 sets of 10 with 30 - easier than Saturday
French Curls - 3 sets of 10 with 25 - harder than Saturday, just about gone.

Everything fried by this stage. Good wee session for an old man with a cold. Keep this work ethic going for 5 weeks and who knows what I might bring to the platform? Happy

Wednesday Training

Still got this damn cold. It's seems to have moved into a phase 2, leaving me tired and listless and moving dangerously close to manflu. It might drag me down, but it won't knock me out.

Me and Donnie tonight. Me first time deadlifts for about four weeks (excluding the comp ten days ago), Donnie first time ever 'powerlifting' deadlifts. More coaching than lifting for me.

60 for 5 x 3 sets
80 for 3 x 2 sets
100 for 2
110 for 1
120 for 1
130 for 1
140 for 1
150 for 1
160 for 1 - just
170 for 1 - fail, and the back felt so bad that I left it there.

Donnie proceeded to do 170, 182.5 and 185. Not bad for a first session - definite potential!

Then to the Sports Centre

Lat Pulldowns - sets of 10 with 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70
Facepulls - 5 sets of 10 with 37.5
Rowing (Bottom Pegged cable crossover and put step across) - 5 sets of 10 with 50
Dumbell Curls - 3 sets of 10 with 18s.

No pulling up trees tonight, just did what I could when feeling rough. Rowing was too light, but I had zero strength endurance to do more reps. Will turn 10s into 20s when I'm over this snotfest.

Thursday Bench

An early start tonight - got the monthly golf club committee meeting straight after training. Me, Scott and Donnie tonight, and it's shirt on for me - the first of many shirt sessions in the weeks to come. I'm using my old SK. It's a bit loose on me now. I can virtually get it on by myself. I'm feeling quite a bit better than I was last night, but still this damn cold lingers like a fart in a lift. Just bear in mind loose shirt and still got a cold when assessing tonight's numbers.

Bar for 10
40 for 10
60 for 8
80 for 6
100 for 4
120 for 2

Then shirt on, everything from here on in in a shirt to a 4 inch board

140 for 5
160 for 3
180 for 1
190 for 1
200 for 1 - just, good fight, won it
190 for 2 - two grinds, but got them both
180 for 3 - third a fight, but was never not going to get it
160 for 6 - a breeze
140 for 10 - volume in a shirt - first time for everything
Finish.

Delighted with that lot tonight, did exactly what I had planned, not a missed lift all night. Need to get a lot stronger equipped, but tonight was a good start. No point investing in a new shirt before January's comp, but if I could get my arms half an inch bigger then I probably wouldn't need one...

Monday Bench

Me, Donnie and Ali tonight. Nearly over the cold, but suffering from a five-hour sleep last night.

Bar for 20
40 for 10
70 for 8
100 for 4
120 for 2

Then loose shirt on and everything else tonight in the shirt to a 4 inch board

140 for 5
160 for 3
180 for 3 - just
180 for 3 - better
180 for 3 - best set, nailed
160 for 8 - just got the last one
140 for 12 - easy, if 12 can ever be easy.
Finish.

I had some thoughts of going to the sports centre for some assistance work, but that little lot stuffed me, plus the weather's s**te, so that's enough for tonight. Feeling I'm making progress already. The problem will be Christmas - not whether I'll train, but whether I'll have anyone to train with, and whether I'll be able to do equipped work.
