Ah ah ah mate, you said no one is south Wales plays/cares and I proved this point to be incorrect.
Wales also only has 4 professional/semi pro football teams, but people still care. Also when you say they also have their own Welsh league, the same is said for amateur rugby league. Granted RL is not a game widely played in Wales, but it is played and supported by a surprising number of people.

You know I didn't mean LITERALLY no one. I like rugby league and I still didn't give a s**t about the Welsh game. Yeah there may be a few clubs but for every 1 there is probably 50 union clubs.

Also State of Origin is awesome. Would pick watching that over an international every time.

I know mate, I just wanted to point out there were actually some fairly decent teams in Wales, but international RL will never take of, because the majority of people, like you and me, will always see State of Origin as the pinnacle due to the quality and intensity of the game. Its the only product that RL offers which matches Union for that (except maybe the Super league grand final, NRL grand final and Challenge Cup Final).

But for anyone wo wants to watch a quality game, like I said before watch PNG v Samoa tonight.

Samoa V PNG will be brutal, only wish I could watch the game.

Someone mentioned that the international game is not seen as the 'pinnacle' of a player's career, and to a certain extent you're right. The State of Origin is massive, SL Grand final likewise, but there is not enough quality international's, not enough quality nations for the big 3 to compete against. Come the final though, whoever is involved, it will be one of the, if not THE biggest game of a lot of those players career. First WC in 5 years, 70,000+, it will be massive for them.

It was me who mentioned it, and to an extent I can agree with you, BUT, if the Aussies win, do you think smith, slater, inglis et al will rank it above their state of origin achievements? I don't know and think its a particularly interesting debate! I do think should England win (long shot) that will rank as the pinnacle.

But state of origin will be played infront of 80,000 plus every year and in a more brutal and intense atmosphere. Again, it's interesting.

It's strange that the professional international game, is only contested by 3 teams, where as the amateur international game is contested by a number of nations, as is the student game.
