Englands strongest man 2011 Member 1342, 246 posts SQ 340, BP 220, DL 380940.0 kgs @ 160kgs Eq | brownbear said: Correct me if I'm wrong terry but it seems a bit of a catch 22. You may get to a level where you decide to get better you need to stop your regular job and make money from strongman. But when you do this, the number of international comps you do goes up and travel which puts a strain on you but also actually reduced how much continuous training you can do in prep for the big knes Trust me when I say this you really have no idea what pro strongman is all about, these guys do not have cash flowing in and the comps they do is so they can earn more money. This is not an easy sport to make money from, sponsors don't want to give anything away and the money keeps getting less and the competition gets harder every year. The small experience I have there is very little in common with what happens at pro level to what happens at amateur level strongman. It sadly becomes more about the tele and not about the competition.

Anyway, gutted for Tel. But Shaw is now the WSM and what a beast he is. He was a better strongman than Big Z this time and that's all there is to it.

Didn't he win last year? Oh and twice before. Lalas came second at Worlds, second at Europes twice and 1st at the Arnold Classic, he's 5'10. Height is an advantage but it's not crucial to success. Also, can I say that I've been backing Brian Shaw for the win as my favorite non-british athlete, and I think it's very unfair for people to be saying that Z is actually the strongest, and that Brian shouldn't have the title. He worked hard, and this year, he was the strongest.

Would make for a better, more interesting final imo. Can't see the tv production company liking that though. Yeah this would be good, don't know how feasible it would be traveling twice though.

Strong as he is, I find that hard to believe Z has over 460 kilos in training .... Agreed, I find it hard to believe this or the other comment saying he might be good for 470 at the arnolds. man , not taking anything away form Shaw , but he weigts 210 kilos , has log 190 kilos , axle 205 kilos with a big jerk , squat under 900 pounds , there are at least 2-3 guys with bigger squat , he is not that strong , bodyweight helps him for carrying just as Thor , but this ain't no strentght at all ... Z is the man , without stones and frame carry no one beats him at the world's ..... he is doing Arnold 2014 and gonna make some records , believe me .....the man has 470 kilos deadlift in him ! Also as mentioned this is strongman not powerlifting so stop moaning about how his his static strength is so much better than brians and than the rest, I think everyone would probably agree that if it was log-squat-deadlift he would have won but its not.

Member 2823, 37 posts SQ 265, BP 160, DL 315740.0 kgs @ 133kgs UnEq | I have actually seen someone deadlift 470kg. And he is the current world record holder in the deadlift. It left me thinking where is the limit...

Grass fed Member 1147, 7710 posts SQ 220, BP 185, DL 272.5677.5 kgs @ 113kgs UnEq | Points I found interesting, Lalas' fall from grace, too many big man events for him Thor, 2 thirds in a row Shaw, lets be honest, in this shape he would have won last year, and the things we were saying about him dominating after his first win would have been correct. End of an era for British athletes, I wonder what advice they would give the next generation, or if they would tell them it is worth the sacrifice at all?

Uk limbo dancing champion Member 2666, 6551 posts SQ 202, BP 170, DL 255627.0 kgs @ 88kgs UnEq | has terry said hes retiring ? if so i must have missed it. i dont think he should or will (unless the injury is really bad) top 3 in 1st 3 events, we know wen at his best he cud of got 2nd on deadlift, top 3 in stones and at least scored in the overhead which would of been minimum of 42 points and others wud have lost more points, definately cud/shud have made podium. i wudnt retire knowing i can still make podiums at worlds with a good run of been injury free.

banned. Member 4768, 413 posts SQ 310, BP 232.5, DL 310852.5 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq | Z has more in him than shows in contest when it is about max ! Theres is an interview Colin Bryce asked him how is his dead and he said if being in shape 470 kilos is not a problem ! For sure he had some problems ...u'll see at the Arnold he will take the max event not Shaw ! Remember last year Jenkins beat him in the log , but a few know Z was sick .. so u stop moaning and don't count the old man off because he's the strongest mothaf**ka ever !
