13*4 is 52s.

Bolt will run 4*11.5 second 100m no problem at all and will be at least 6 seconds ahead of Mo going into the final 200m

verdict: No contest.

So you would rather multiply his 100m time by 4 than an actual timed, official race result? I'm pretty sure I know which one is more accurate...

I'm not disputing your view that Bolt will win, but how you get there is a bit weird!

And given that we've often seen him do the last 400 of 3000 two seconds faster than that, your reasoning is not applicable.

Given that the start of his final lap is a full pace running start,...yada yada yada.

Starting stationary from blocks is an entirely different proposition. His 100m PB tells you that.

AS above mate. Stationary starts are very different.

I think Bolt would win if they did it in say March, if they do it after world champs it is 50/50.

Farah won't be much faster than 50 secs for 400m's.

Bolt could cruise 51 secs and have plenty in the tank to finish the last 200m's.

Bolt could beat MJ's 400 WR as well if he had the will to do so, he is by far the best sprinter.

True but a stationary start clearly takes a greater proportion off 100m than off 400m

If Mo got through the 1st 100m in a MASSIVE 100m PB pace of 12.5s, what time would you expect him to pass the 400m mark of a 600m race?

I wasnt as convinced by this when Bolt first said it, and I have yet to be convinced otherwise.

Whilst Bolt is clearly faster over 200m, Johnson had an amazing ability to hold his speed through the last 200m that has never been seen before or since. Bolt is a complete freak, but to suggest that Johnson wasn't is a tad disingenuous. He dominated the 200/400m in the exact way that Bolt now does the 100/200.

In just the same way, it is by no means a given that the best 100m runner will also be the best 200m runner. It just happens that Bolt is.

Let's assume that he's basically at top speed for his whole last lap, and that's the fastest he can run at a flat-out sprint. (probably untrue, but hey ho.) Then he runs 12.5 per hundred. His measures standing start hundred time is 13, so the start costs him a half second. So 50.5.

Even if you want to argue the start costs a second - which it might, he doesn't likely train from blocks - 51 is an outside number.

I suspect Bolt wins this at 600, but I think it's close. At 800, it's Mo.

MJ was at the top of his sport for a decade...ran loads of 200m races, yet his two fastest times were on his home country track about a month or two apart. Apart from that he always ran 19.8's. Bolt drops 19.3 and below on any track on different years.

Bolt is much more talented than MJ, MJ has a better work ethic. Bolt doesn't even need a better work ethic because he has already gone down as the greatest sprinter. 9.58 isn't touched by any record and he's not even trying. I think Bolt also ran 45.3 for the 400 when he was like 16.

I hear the first 1m takes like 0.5seconds...

so 600m will take 300seconds...

which is 5 minutes!

f**king slow
