It would really feel like the future, if they could develop wearable sniffer bands, similar to those featured in Logans Run:

I honestly feel like I'm living between a brave new world and a Woody Allen black comedy. Its tragic.

Just to think...it seems like only yesterday covid escaping from the Wuhan lab was a conspiracy theory...

How long until what we are just being softened up becomes reality - for environmental lockdowns which becomes the new normal and no longer conspiracy... Im going to have a gamble and give it 18 months.

The idea that it's more likely than zoonosis still is.

For anyone interested in the origins of the virus, this long, thorough article seems to me to give what I understand to be the current broad consensus:

http://foreignpolicy.com/2021/06/15/lab-leak-theory-doesnt-hol...

The title is misleading. TLDR:
* a lab leak is not impossible, but it's not particularly likely. Most experts think it is pretty unlikely, for a host of evidenced reasons.
* There isn't actually any more evidence for the leak theory than there was a year ago.
* It is pretty certainly not an engineered or bred virus.
* It's been caught up in the culture war to some extent, with the Trump administration keen to push a blame narrative.
* The Chinese government are paranoid dicks.

Meanwhile, in genuinely excellent news, public caution and the accelerated vaccine programme in Bolton (where I live and work) seems to be working in what was a hotbed of the Delta strain; it does seem to be more than just a half-term blip reduction. We had a lot of cases, and unwell children on a scale we hadn't seen before, a few weeks ago. Now we seem not to have anything like that.

Nationally, with most older adults at least partially vaccinated, and Pfizer for younger ones effective against serious disease after the first dose, we may well avoid really serious consequences from our failure to control borders properly this time.

I certainly hope you're right Rick, about vaccinations. However, in Brum only 58% have had a first dose and 41% have had 2 doses. It is hard to believe we are so far behind the rest of the country in getting people jabbed.

I wonder how many younger people would have taken the vax if the government had stuck to June 21 freedom day...
and stuck to the 'science'...i feel sick even typing that phrase.

I think most agree that the July date is also unlikely to happen. Maybe the government and the unelected advisers missed a trick? Its all very well temping double jabbers with holidays in the sun but I think there is a growing misstrust that
nothing is going back to normal anytime soon. so why bother?

Polling has always been completely clear: the vast, vast majority. When the national booking system opened to the under-25s, they signed up at a faster rate than previous groups.

Already setting up another late autumn/winter lockdown

They wheeled whitty out to spread the early scares and this will condition the majority to another full lockdown, rinse and repeat! Let out a little good news and then put out fear. Forever dangling the Carrott.

This is easier to predict than a rocky film

Plandemic.
If people ain't getting it now after 18 months there's no hope for them.
